Tip: Three things you need to know about starry photography.

Shoot the stars on a midsummer night

Summer night is coming, which is a good time to shoot the starry sky. The experts we invited told us that it was a romantic trip to watch and shoot stars by inviting three or five friends, driving around the city, setting up a tripod and looking for the North Star.

travelling requisites

Before we really start shooting, we must first understand the types of starry sky themes, which are roughly divided into starry sky, orbit and deep space in form. The astronomical knowledge and shooting equipment involved in deep space are relatively professional, which is beyond our discussion for the time being. We are talking about meteors and orbits. Because it is difficult for a digital SLR to withstand exposure for several hours, it is not only convenient to control the exposure, but also to get three results of starry sky, stellar orbit and time-delayed video at one time.

Once the shooting form is clear, we can prepare the shooting equipment. Because we need a large wide-angle lens to meet the demand of composition, we also recommend Quan Huafu fuselage for the fuselage, which has more advantages in wide-angle lens matching and noise control under high sensitivity. Some entry-level full-frame cameras are good choices for novices, but the battery capacity is small, so it is necessary to equip with a battery handle to fully charge two batteries, otherwise it is difficult to keep shooting for several hours with one battery. In addition to the requirement of focal length, a lens needs a large aperture, because the luminous flux of a large aperture can capture more details that can't be detected by the naked eye. The most important thing to ensure in starry sky shooting is stability, so a sturdy tripod and pan/tilt are essential. After the composition is determined, it is best to hang heavy objects under a tripod for reinforcement and stability.

Headlights are the most indispensable travel equipment. Headlights with weak red light are the best choice. The camera in low light will not affect the photo, and the red light will not affect the vision. Clothing in summer will be much more convenient than in winter, but the temperature in the suburbs and the top of the mountain is still relatively cold, so you need to bring a coat and pants. Because we have a lot of equipment every time we travel, we will choose to travel by car, so we sleep in the car at night. If camping is needed, ordinary double-decker tents, moisture-proof mats and sleeping bags can be used as standard. The most important thing is to remember to bring anti-mosquito drugs.

weather

Watching the weather before shooting is the most important factor. If you shoot the orbit of a star, there can't be a cloud in the sky. If you shoot a time-lapse video, there will be some clouds floating by, which will be more dynamic. Ordinary weather forecast can't meet the requirements, so you should look at the satellite cloud picture, wind direction and atmospheric visibility to get a general understanding of the sky cloud cover and visibility in your area in the next 12 hour.

location

Try to choose suburbs without urban lighting pollution and avoid aircraft routes, otherwise there will be many discordant lines in the star-orbit photos. When choosing the location, we should also consider the prospect, because the starry sky and orbit are only gorgeous backgrounds, and the prospect is the main body, such as lakes, dead trees, strange rocks or buildings, cultural relics and so on.

time

It is recommended to set up the camera before sunset. First of all, you can harvest a beautiful sunset. Second, you can shoot some foreground at night to facilitate HDR later. If there is no light, the foreground is likely to be dark. In order to avoid light pollution, it is suggested to choose the day when the moon does not rise every month. If you have to shoot at night with moonlight, you must choose the direction along the light to avoid direct moonlight.

In Beijing, you can go to these places to shoot stars.

skill

Be sure to turn off internal processing.

Turn off automatic playback of photos.

Turn off all internal processing, such as high ISO noise reduction, long exposure noise reduction, lens correction, dark angle, color optimization and so on.

Put a viewfinder cover on the optical viewfinder to prevent stray light from entering CMOS.

The format is set to RAW for post-processing.

Master taught you to shoot with your hands.

Manual exposure mode, the aperture is adjusted to the maximum, and the camera is set to door B.

Use delayed pay-off, set the exposure time to 30 seconds, the interval time to 1 second, and shoot more than 200 pictures or unlimited until the memory card is full.

Manual focusing, generally, is that the infinite end moves back a little, which requires shooting amplification and playback confirmation.

Later chapters

Select a photo and adjust the color temperature, exposure, dark details, saturation, etc. Go and take a picture of the starry sky. However, it will be a little troublesome in the later stage of shooting the orbit of the star. First, adjust a photo and save the adjustment parameters of this photo. It is suggested that the color temperature should be set at about 5000K to increase the saturation as much as possible. Then, after the parameters of this photo are realized in all photos, the JPEG format will be output uniformly. Usually, most software that decomposes RAW has this batch processing function. When all RAW files are output as JPEG photos with the same parameters, the star-orbit superposition is carried out by using Startrals software, which is very small and can be downloaded from www.startrai ls.de (free software). Open Start and select File & gt Open the image, select all the JPEG photos just exported, and then select buid & gt;; Startrai ls> Well, you can have a cup of coffee and watch the cable on the screen get longer and longer, magically forming a photo of the star track. When the bottom progress bar is completed, save this photo of the star orbit. It is suggested to save it in TIFF format, and then further adjust it with Photoshop. Due to the different colors of the stars themselves, colored lines will appear after outputting the star orbit, which is the result of setting the color temperature and saturation when outputting JPEG before.

The setting of ISO depends on the brightness of the night sky, with no light pollution of 3200-6400 and light pollution of 200-400. You need to shoot to determine the specific value. The less light pollution, the higher the sensitivity, and the more you can shoot stars that are invisible to the naked eye.
