How many photographers does a variety show need?
Most people think that the post-production of variety shows is to get the material and start working. Actually this statement is not accurate! Compared with the past, the later stage moves forward in the whole program production chain, and the workflow can be roughly divided into three stages.
First of all, before recording the program
In the planning stage of the early stage of program recording, our later directors will intervene in communication, understand the content and style of the program, hold meetings within each team to discuss and study, give ideas on editing and visual packaging, and make preliminary plans for the previous director group.
Variety shows are multi-cameras, especially reality shows, with as many as 50 or 60 seats, which take a long time to record and have a large amount of material, and need a special DIT department to manage the material. Before recording the program, DIT personnel should attend the technical coordination meeting of the director group, understand the shooting mode, the number of seats, the type of equipment, and determine the shooting form and follow-up plan.
Second, during the recording of the program.
During the recording process, DIT, post-director and master clip are the first. DIT personnel need to go to the recording site to determine the daily material handover process and solutions to unexpected problems with the shooting team. And check the quality and format of the materials to ensure that the materials are correct. Once there is something wrong with the material, all the subsequent steps can't be carried out smoothly, so DIT is very important.
In the process of recording, the late director and the main editor also need to go to the scene to understand the recording situation of the program, grasp the content, form and recording effect of the program, and be aware of it. When you watch it, you should simultaneously conceive the idea of editing, and make full preparations for the subsequent efficient editing.
Third, after the program is recorded.
In the post-production stage after the recording of the program, our work division is more detailed and can be roughly divided into six parts:
Material management and plywood
After DIT gets the program material, it needs to sort out and back up the material, upload the material in batches, rename the material according to the shooting content after uploading, and then transcode it to ensure the uniformity of the material format.
After transcoding is completed, the board is sealed. To put it simply, board closing is to put the materials of multiple cameras on the same timeline at the same time to ensure that the pictures and sounds of different seats correspond, and the sounds and pictures are synchronized.

Editing is the core link of our variety creation. After the editor gets the timeline of DIT board, he will first get familiar with the material, at the same time, rough cut the material, delete the invalid content, select and assemble the lens, and form a relatively complete program content and framework.
After the rough cut is completed, the editor will continue to refine the content plot, find the highlights in the program, and improve the rhythm of the program with music and sound effects.
Plane original painting/animation production
Graphic and animation posts will make unified style animation packages according to the detailed content of the program to enhance the program effect and make the program more interesting.
Huazi copywriting
Huazi case will find some points to create and produce Huazi copy according to the intensive content provided by the editor, so as to increase the emotional effect of the program, which is called "God Subtitle" on the Internet.
Mixed color
Edit and output the edited urtext content for color adjustment, and the colorist adjusts the color of the program screen to enhance the aesthetic feeling and style of the screen, which is what we often call Da Vinci color adjustment.
Match to the original tape
Mixing optimizes the music, sound effects, visual effects and vocals used in editing, balances the vocals and musical sounds, and produces more vivid effects.
