What's the difference between electronic shutter and mechanical shutter?

The difference between electronic shutter and mechanical shutter is as follows:

1, the working principle is different.

In fact, the electronic shutter does not have a "door" that needs to be opened and closed by mechanical action, but uses the principle that the sensor photosensitive system does not work when the sensor is not energized. Although the image field window is still "wide open", it cannot produce an image. Only when the shutter button is pressed, the electronic time circuit is used to energize the sensor and produce the effect of "instant opening" within a specified length of time.

Mechanical shutter: control the opening and closing of several blades by spring or electromagnetic means, or "cross" the imaging field of view window with a gap of a certain width left and right or up and down like a stage curtain, so that the window can get a "lighting opportunity" within a specified length of time.

2. Different application scenarios

For sports, wildlife and macro photography, the mechanical shutter is used by default. This can avoid the problem of roller shutter, eliminate the stripes in artificial light, and use the flash without scruple. But if you need to shoot at a higher continuous shooting speed in natural light, you can also use electronic shutter and electronic front curtain shutter.

Electronic shutter is suitable for situations where there is no artificial light source or fast moving objects. For example, if the ambient light is too bright, there is no nd filter, the aperture size is unchanged, and the ISO cannot be lowered any more, you can consider using an ultra-high-speed pure electronic shutter.

3. Speed

Electronic shutter can shoot silently; No shutter vibration; The upper limit of shutter speed is not limited by mechanical action. At present, the highest speed can reach116000s or1/32000s. Continuous shooting speed is higher than mechanical shutter and electronic front curtain shutter.

Mechanical shutter can't shoot silently; The highest shutter speed is usually slower than that of electronic shutter, which is 1/4000 seconds or 1/8000 seconds. The vibration of the fuselage may affect the imaging resolution.
