Which French film describes finding a son's lover?

Movie: British sons and lovers.

The English literary film adapted from Lawrence's autobiographical novel was directed by Jack Cardiff, an outstanding photographer, and won the academy award for best cinematography. The plot describes the young miner Paul as quiet and sensitive. His mother Gertrude courted her son because she disagreed with her husband who often drank. Her feelings are beyond normal maternal love. This situation affected the communication between Paul and his girlfriend miriam. Influenced by the strict religious concept of his family, miriam only wanted to pursue spiritual love and refused physical enthusiasm. In order to get rid of his mother's control and his girlfriend's emotional impact, Paul plunged into the arms of Clara, a female worker who separated from her husband, but soon found that they lacked spiritual communication. Finally, Paul gave up this boring coal mining town and went to a foreign land to open up a new world. The film depicts Paul's complex psychological state in a very delicate way, and Dean Stockwell, Trevor Howard and wendy hiller are also excellent.
