Ricoh buys Pentax

20 1 1 On July 3rd, Ricoh and HOYA both announced that they had reached an agreement to acquire the Pentax imaging system business under HOYA. An established manufacturer in the field of photography changed hands.

The Ricoh Pentax imaging system business acquired by HOYA this time includes R&D, which produces and sells optical products such as digital cameras, lenses, accessories, security cameras and telescopes.

Through this acquisition, Ricoh's digital imaging and even the entire consumer product business will be improved. In particular, it has obtained the sales channels of lightweight interchangeable lens camera technology, lens technology and digital image products, entered new markets such as medium format digital cameras and security image products, and is expected to expand additional services related to digital images in the future.

To complete the acquisition, HOYA will set up a new company, split its Pentax imaging business and overseas subsidiary PENTAX VN Co. Ltd into the company name, and then hand over all the shares of the company to Ricoh.

After the acquisition, HOYA will continue to operate the remaining businesses of the existing Pentax company, including digital camera modules, lenses of DVD laser heads, endoscopes, artificial bones, speech synthesis technology and so on. And the core product is medical equipment, which is actually the original intention of Hoya to acquire Pentax for 1 billion dollars in 2007. By then, Ricoh's digital cameras and HOYA's endoscopes will all use the Pentax brand.
