Compared with India and frigates, Pakistan belongs to the same family. What's the level?

Today, we will talk about the comparison between Pakistan and India, and the comparison between the frigates of the two countries. To be honest, the frigates of both countries have certain factors of Soviet-Russian descent and belong to the same clan. However, the specific positioning and differences between the two sides are great. So, what is the level of comparison between the main frigates of the two countries? Today, we will talk about this problem.

First, let's look at the relationship between Pakistan and China. Seriously, Pakistanis belong to one of China's closest friends. In the Pakistani army, various weapons produced and designed by China have appeared. Take the army as an example, MBT2000 tanks and various magic models of Type 59 tanks. In the air force, it is equipped with Xiaolong fighters and Qiang 5 attack aircraft. As for the navy, China produces more ships. For example, in the early 20th century, Pakistan imported three F22P frigates from China. And under the technical guidance of China, the fourth F22P frigate was built in Karachi Shipyard.

There are four frigates, which are currently one of the main ships of the Pakistan Navy. The prototype of the F22P frigate is the 053H3 frigate developed by China in the late 1990s, which entered the 2 1 century. With the development of warship stealth, many stealth elements were added to the construction of F22P frigate. Technically speaking, except the engine and the sonar of the hull are made in Germany, other equipment and weapons are made in China. In other words, the F22P frigate is equivalent to the stealth upgraded version of the 053H3 frigate.

However, in the face of the powerful Indian navy, the family background of the Pakistani navy is very thin. Especially the formation air defense capability, even the F22P frigate only has the point defense capability within 15km. The Pakistani navy lacks medium-and long-range air defense capabilities, which has great constraints on itself. Especially after India introduced the Super King aircraft carrier and MIG -29K carrier aircraft, the demand in this area is even more urgent. Pakistan Navy is very satisfied with the performance of the F22P frigate. However, Pakistan hopes that China can provide an upgraded version with a certain medium-range air defense capability.

In recent years, among all kinds of naval vessels in China, there are more and more vessels with medium and long-range air defense capabilities, such as destroyers 052C and 052D, destroyers 05 1C, destroyers 055 and frigates 054A. According to the needs and plans of the Pakistani navy, there is no need for a 7000-ton ship at this stage. Therefore, among all types of air defense ships in China, only the frigate 054A is really suitable for the Pakistani navy. Type 054A frigate is a 4000-ton frigate developed by China around 2007, which is equipped with a 32-unit droop system and a roof coordinate radar.

Among them, the roof coordinate radar can search 50 maritime targets and illuminate 10 targets at the same time. As for the 32-unit hanging system, it can produce the latest Hongqi 16C air defense missile with a range of 70km. The 054A frigate is very cost-effective and well received by the navy. Therefore, since 2008, it is still under construction, and the number of buildings has reached more than 30. During a series of naval exercises in Pakistan and China, we came into contact with frigate 054A and spoke highly of it. So around 20 17, Pakistan signed a contract with China.

Four 054AP frigates were ordered from China at a price of $654.38 billion. Compared with the 054A frigate used in China, the 054AP frigate inherits most of the designs and is very close in all aspects. However, as the Type 054AP frigate will be the main ship in the future Pakistani navy, its status is equivalent to that of the Type 055 destroyer in China. Therefore, it has been upgraded to a certain extent. The most important point is that the frigate H/LJQ-382 three-coordinate air search radar has been replaced by SR-24 10C active phased array radar, which belongs to small phased array radar.

For the navies of small and medium-sized countries, large air defense ships with four shields are not needed, and small phased array radar is enough. As for tonnage, compared with the 4000-ton 054A, the 054AP frigate may increase slightly, but not too much. Next, let's look at the Indian navy. Seriously, compared with the Pakistani navy, the Indian navy is obviously much stronger. India, on the other hand, is not strong in localization and relies on foreign technology in many ways. In the Indian navy, various types of ships are very complicated, but in general, three of them are very representative.

They are P 15 destroyer, P 15B destroyer and Varick class frigate. Among them, the P 15 destroyer, also known as Kolkata class destroyer, belongs to the 7,000-ton destroyer, and its positioning is similar to that of China's 052C and 052D destroyers. As for the P 15B destroyer, it is an improved Kolkata-class destroyer. Its tonnage has increased to about 9,000 tons, and its position in the Indian Navy is similar to that of China's Type 055 destroyer. As for the Varick class frigate, it is an upgraded version of the Russian Tarva class frigate. Varick-class frigates belong to 5000-ton ships, and their equipment is full of Russian style.

This frigate is also based on roof coordinate radar, as well as SAN 12 anti-aircraft missiles, Russian anti-submarine torpedoes, anti-aircraft guns and so on. In a word, in many ways, the 054AP frigate imported from Pakistan and the Indian-class Shivalik frigate have certain Soviet-Russian descent, belong to the same clan and come from different sources. So, what level are these two ships?

Seriously speaking, in many technical indicators, the two frigates are comparable and even use some of the same equipment. In terms of medium-range air defense, 054AP frigate adopts 32-link system, and Varick class adopts SAN 12 single-arm launcher. Therefore, the 054AP frigate has obvious advantages in reaction speed and attack surface. However, with the improvement of Varick's anti-submarine equipment, its anti-submarine capability may be better. As for anti-ship firepower, stealth capability and naval gun level, there is basically no big gap.

In short, both types of ships belong to one of the advanced ships in the new era. However, their positions in their respective navies are completely different. In the Indian navy, the status of the Varick class frigate is very similar to that of China's Type 054A frigate. In the Pakistani navy, the 054AP frigate should at least assume the mission role of the 052D destroyer or the 055 destroyer.
