Grazing in Wan Li's self-driving Altun no man's land just to count wild yaks?

Written at the beginning, this article is an appetizer. Focus on the off-road mode next Friday and release the Altun reserve video on the spot. Wonderful content is on the off-road road ~

Note: This activity is approved by the Altun Nature Reserve Administration, and legally entered the nature reserve for scientific research activities.

At Starbucks, a cup of favorite Freiber and a piece of butter Si Kang began to recall the scientific research in Altyn's No Man's Land. I've been longing for no man's land for some time. I've always wanted to drive my Taipei-powered Isuzu pickup truck to complete crossing the four no-man's land in China. I didn't expect the invitation to the event to come faster. This is probably the coolest thing we have done since the media. After the 11th National Day, I set off in a hurry and was invited to participate in a joint scientific research activity of Isuzu and chinese national geography in Jiangxi Province-a boat crossing the plateau in the wilderness. In this way, the tour of Xinjiang Altun no man's land was started.

No man's land is really vast and sparsely populated. I drove around it for four days. No one looked for it except the people standing guard at the central station of the reserve, but I have seen many wild animals. Nature reserves are not suitable for human survival, and then there is no commercial component. Animals and plants live here according to the laws of the food chain, and it is expected that they may not know the existence of human species.

The purpose of protection is greater. The whole reserve is divided into buffer zone, experimental zone and core zone. Theoretically, the core area is 100% refused to enter, and it is also one of the few pure land in China. And our team just crossed the buffer zone and entered the test area. Do what experiment? More just observation and emergency rescue.

The director of the Altun Reserve Management Bureau introduced the situation of the reserve to us. Altun Mountain is the earliest and largest plateau desert ecological protection area in China, with an area of 47,000 square kilometers and an average elevation of nearly 4,800 meters. Species diversity is better than other "brother" nature reserves.

Wild is the biggest difference, but compared with wild zoos, I feel that animals in zoos are not afraid of people, and animals in protected areas avoid people. Even large beasts like Tibetan brown bears and wolves can only be seen through telephoto lenses or telescopes, and soon they run away without a trace. On the contrary, angry wild yaks are quite aggressive to people.

Fortunately, the team entered Altun Mountain, and it was dusk after the big board, and there was still some distance from the central station. Mysterious instructions came from the leader car: slow down, don't get off the bus, take out your binoculars and watch the motorcade at 2 o'clock. We took out our binoculars and saw two wolves sharing a wild yak. Seeing this scene for the first time in my life is too bloody.

Seeing the unknown species approaching, two wolves stood guard and one continued to tear the internal organs. After a long time, I saw that we had the idea of getting close. They ran away and hid hundreds of meters away to watch. Because we called more than 30 people out of the car, the two wolves had to wait until we left and come back to continue to share the food. The wild yak looks really pitiful. It is not difficult to find that the time of death is about three or four days from the physical body. Because the temperature is MINUS 20 or 30 degrees at night, the meat is not rotten, and the bull's eye has been taken away by some birds. These two wolves may just be here to clean up the battlefield.

Wild yak is the main goal of our trip. According to statistics, the number of wild yaks in China is about 50,000 to 60,000, and the number of wild yaks in Altun Mountain Reserve accounts for about 1/3. How did you get this quantity? Every year, experts from nature reserves or the Academy of Sciences come here for scientific research, and the number of wild yaks in the transect is calculated by probability statistics. Our job is to record the number of wild yaks we saw along the way with counters and statistical tables.

The significance is not limited to this. Nature reserves also know the ecological balance by counting different species and observing grasslands. Compared with Tibetan yak, Tibetan wild donkey should be regarded as a big family in Altun Nature Reserve. No less than 10 Tibetan wild donkey families were observed along the way. Tibetan wild donkey and Tibetan gazelle are both lovely species, and they like their curious look back best.

The Tibetan fox looks a little cute, with a large proportion of square face, and has little affection for it.

Tibetan brown bear should be the top animal in the food chain of the reserve. A Tibetan brown bear was accidentally found on a dry river bed. This should be the last time before it hibernates. Seeing the mighty motorcade, I ran away. Although we are at least 500 meters away from its location, we still ran to the distance after watching it several times.

In the safari park, perhaps bears will ask tourists for food, or they may bow and do some flattering actions. Nature reserves are different. It is difficult for us to get close to wild animals. If we get close, they will run away. Being chased by a lonely wild yak is an exception. Maybe we blocked the wild yak's way home, or maybe it suffered a setback in the family. Seeing all kinds of chasing and blocking by our team, we may feel bored and lack fighting spirit, and finally choose to walk away. Summing up experience, the wild yak with its tail up and alone is not easy to mess with.

Even a large-displacement car like Toyota 4500 will have power attenuation on the plateau. This trip to Jiangxi? So is Isuzu Ranger. The combination of diesel engine, 1.9L displacement and single turbocharging has brought us the necessary traffic guarantee.

Diesel engine is definitely the most suitable power unit for long-distance self-driving travel, and the high cruising range brought by low fuel consumption is absolutely incomparable to any gasoline vehicle. Don't say that you have added more than 1000, and the cruising range of a diesel engine with 1.9T plus a 100-liter fuel tank has reached 2000. The displacement of 1.9L is really small, but it is technically the most advanced by Isuzu. 166 horsepower and 360 Nm of torque drive more than two tons of Rangers. Turbocharging is definitely twice the result with half the effort at high altitude, which can reduce the power loss caused by hypoxia at high altitude. Personally, I think that the power of 1.9T diesel vehicle at high altitude is no less than that of 3.5L self-priming engine.

Really give you a 3.5-pair turbocharged imported pickup truck. You don't need to know how to drive, just step on the gas pedal. 1.9T Ranger still needs some driving skills. Below 1500 rpm, the power output is slow. If it starts on a slope, it needs to wait for the intervention of the lower turbine. However, whenever the rotation speed exceeds 1500 rpm, not to mention Gobi, even the Kumukuri desert with the highest altitude in the world can complete crossing.

Many friends are hesitant about DPF regeneration system. After a long observation along the way, the No.8 car I drove never broke down. From the working principle, the DPF regeneration system needs more than ten conditions to trigger, among which the temperature condition is the most difficult to meet in autumn and winter on the plateau. Most of the early DPF regeneration systems are blocked because a certain condition is not met and the regeneration system fails to spontaneously ignite. Isuzu also has countermeasures. If DPF regeneration is prevented, the vehicle can still continue driving when entering the limited power output mode. After driving at high altitude for 5 days, there was no DPF blockage and the combustion was normal. Two months ago, the "Cross-country Road" team drove two Arctic trucks to shoot the Journey to the West in high-altitude Sichuan, and never encountered such a problem. So it should be regarded as a case of the old ranger.

I have always believed that the most beautiful scenery is visible to the naked eye. I have been to Xiaohongshu or some punching places recommended by social media before, which is too commercial, or I can only come out to meet people in the later stage. I don't want to go to this place Altun Nature Reserve is different. The scenery is in your eyes, and you always feel a little less charming when you shoot it. The yellow grassland in the vicinity and the wetland in the middle and far distance, relying on the Kumkuli desert and the snow-capped mountains in the distance, draw a different picture with yellow eyes.

Scenes of deserts and lakes are not uncommon, and sand springs outline different pictures. The spring water in the desert gushes out clear spring water, forming a lake and flowing to the wetland outside the desert, which breeds rich animals and plants in Altun Nature Reserve.

Where does the water from the sand spring come from? The meltwater from the snow mountain glacier in Qiumian Lake flows along the river to the depths of Kumkuri Desert, then seeps into the ground, and finally gushes out from a sand spring in another part of the desert. The structure is unimaginable, and I have to sigh the ingenuity of nature.

Nature is great, and greatness lies in creating all kinds of unexpected scenery; Nature is cruel, especially for animals at the bottom of the food chain. Tibetan wild donkeys were besieged by wolves and finally died alone.

When the sun goes down, it is not just dusk in the desert. The bones of wild yaks lie quietly in the desert. I don't know if I was eaten by a wolf or if I died of old age. I always look depressed.

The motorcade under the setting sun reflects the daytime running lights of the rangers, thus thinking of the scene of returning to the pasture, plus the shooting of Tibetan wild donkeys running on the way. Although I was tired after driving all day, I was still very excited. There may even be an illusion of being in the African grassland.

Every time I travel, I feel more on the road. This time with Isuzu, Jiangxi &; The same is true of chinese national geography Joint Scientific Research Team. We photographed wild animals together, camped in tents on the plateau together, went undercover because of lack of oxygen and insomnia, and slept together. These are the best memories in life. In addition to memories, I understand the necessity of wildlife protection. With the rapid development of the city, the space left for wildlife is getting smaller and smaller. It is difficult to have a piece of pure land preserved without poaching and external interference. This state is quite good. Finish your coffee and call it a day!
