Does photography major need to continue painting?

No need! Painting is only the composition basis of painting in photography. If you have a good painting foundation, it will be easier to learn photography! In a regular photography university, painting is only studied as a basic course in the first and second years.

College photography majors study composition, color, light, darkroom and tone, which will also be involved later.
