Sensory photography

As the saying goes, photography is the art of running out of light.

Of course, it's not the so-called run out of money. It's about how you control the light when shooting. Use light and shadow to make photos look more layered, attract the attention of the audience, let the audience observe the picture you want to express and stimulate the audience's senses. So how to use the light in photography? Here are a few tips, let's have a look.

1, direct light

Direct light is the most directional light, which can make the picture form outstanding contrast between light and dark and well-defined light and dark areas. The area illuminated by direct light is called shadow area, and the scenery in this area can be covered by shadow. In photography, the contrast between light and dark can better highlight the main body of the picture in the bright part.

2. Diffuse light

Compared with direct light, diffused light has no clear directionality, but diffused light can better show the texture of the subject. Under the reflection of diffuse light, the effect of light and shadow on the outline of the scene is weakened, and there is no obvious distinction between light and shade in the picture, which is beneficial to shooting the whole picture of the scene. At the same time, because the light is softer and there is no strong light interference, the saturation of the picture is also higher.

This is one of the reasons why many photographers and enthusiasts like to use polarizers to eliminate the reflection of direct light on the scene surface. Under the irradiation of diffuse light, the color tone is more dull and the light is soft, so it is easier for novices to control the exposure when shooting.

3. Soft light

Smoothing means that the light irradiation direction is consistent with the shooting direction. When shooting under the condition of stable light, the subject receives uniform light, and the shadows are all on the back of the scene, and the picture lacks light and shade changes. If you want to show the gorgeous colors of the picture, it is most suitable to shoot in a smooth light environment.

4. Indirect explanation

Photometry refers to the light with a 90-degree angle between the shooting surface and the light irradiation surface. When shooting in a photometric environment, the brightness of the subject is mixed. The boundaries between highlights, bright parts, dark parts and sub-dark parts are obvious. The layering of the picture is very rich and the three-dimensional sense is strong. When shooting in photometric environment, you need to pay attention to the light ratio. The light ratio should be controlled within the dynamic range of the camera to avoid the scene in the picture being blocked.

5. Backlighting

The visual effect of backlight is very good. In some backlight works, we can often see some works with beautiful outlines. Silhouettes, glare and light effects are also very good choices. Shooting in the backlight environment can enhance the texture of the subject. Of course, it is not difficult to shoot against the light.

6. Side backlight

The side backlight is light with an included angle of about 120 degrees to 150 degrees with the optical axis of the lens, and it is obliquely located in front of the camera when shooting. Using side backlight shooting can make the stereoscopic impression of the main body of the picture more prominent, and the stereoscopic impression of the shadow part is weaker. Therefore, the works shot by side backlight generally need to process the brightness of the shadow surface to modify the three-dimensional sense of the whole picture.

Side backlight lighting can make the picture feel strong in space, rich in color and lively. When shooting with side backlight, we can consider slightly overexposing the light-receiving surface to outline the morphological characteristics of the subject, and then brighten the dark part to show more details.

Summary:

The use of light can bring rich layering to photos. However, the specific situation still needs specific analysis. If you want to take pictures, you must learn how to use light.
