Photography belongs to plastic arts, but it is essentially different from other plastic arts such as painting and sculpture, and has unique creative means. Every photographic work with beautiful colors and far-reaching artistic conception is based on cameras and photosensitive materials. Photographers use photographic techniques and skills to give full play to the artistic thinking of creators and concentrate intuitive reality on photosensitive materials such as film and photographic paper. In recent years, with the rapid development of science and technology, traditional mechanical cameras and photosensitive materials have been gradually replaced by electronic cameras and digital imaging materials, and photography technology has really ushered in a new era of change. This upgrading of photography technology also proves that photography is a traditional and fashionable image medium that combines technological innovation and artistic expression. Looking back at the development history of photography technology, we have experienced many major technological innovations in the past 70 years. Nowadays, when many photographers are talking about using traditional methods or digital methods, or both, this methodological debate has no more influence and change on the essence, attributes and connotation of photography. Methods and means can be different, but in the end all roads lead to the same goal. We should grasp the picture, reflect our thoughts and tell our hearts with the shape of light and shadow, the choice of composition and the creation of color tones. Whether it is to return to the classical craft, to explore the perfection of silver salt images, or to output works with brand-new digital technology, it is worth our discussion and research.
