What symptoms do cats have a few hours before giving birth?

It is common for a shovel officer to choose a mother cat to have kittens. Some shovel officials want to give cats a complete life; Some shovel officials want to subsidize some households by selling breeds of kittens; Some shovel officers are running cat houses or something. But no matter what the reason, let the cat have kittens, we should pay special attention to it and don't take it lightly.

The first thing you need to do after a female cat is pregnant: prepare a veterinarian phone number that you can contact at any time, because no one can predict the exact time of a cat's natural delivery, which may be day, night or early morning. No one can predict what will happen after a cat gives birth to a baby, such as dystocia, massive bleeding, postpartum calcium deficiency and so on. Moreover, the immunity of female cats decreases during pregnancy, and the probability of contracting various diseases is greatly increased. So it is very important to keep a reliable veterinary phone number.

Then you need to prepare everything, such as a prefabricated box (at least 40cm*60cm), several disposable gloves, disinfection scissors, high-energy cans (ad cans or other cans) and so on.

There will be many issues in the series of articles on female cat fertility in the future. Today's focus is: what is the omen that the mother cat is about to be born? The following * * * is divided into two parts, namely: four omens of the mother cat's imminent birth and a personal experience of the mother cat's birth. As usual, the emphasis is on being bold and easy to read. If you are interested, welcome to read the full text.

According to the data, the average pregnant period of female cats (calculated from the first mating) is 65 days, which may be a few days earlier or a few days later, but the floating interval is generally not more than 5 days. By the ninth week of pregnancy, you need to start preparing. It is recommended to tell the veterinarian about this situation in advance.

First, the change of appetite

Female cats who have entered pregnancy usually have an increased appetite, which can clearly show an increase in food/water intake.

However, a few hours or dozens of minutes before delivery, the appetite will suddenly drop, which is considered to be caused by healthy kittens squirming their stomachs in the womb or female cats' childbirth anxiety.

Second, personality changes.

Female cats that have entered pregnancy will become clingy.

A few hours before giving birth, this will become extremely obvious: female cats will frequently surround their owners, stay near their owners and lick their hands/cheeks, and some cats will yell when they lose their owners until they see their owners.

Third, behavior change.

Some time before delivery, the cat may walk around the house, panting because of childbirth anxiety.

It is also possible that I chose the right place of origin because I knew that I was going to have a baby soon.

Fourth, physical changes.

Physical changes can be observed from five aspects: colostrum, body temperature, small movements, contractions and secretions.

Usually 24-48h before delivery, you will see a beige secretion/white scab on its milk. This is the early milk, which we call colostrum. Some cats are not found because they lick clean, and some cats like to do so.

The body temperature of female cats will drop within 48 hours before delivery, generally below 38℃. To measure the body temperature, consider using an electronic thermometer under the armpit/thigh root, and remember not to measure it in the anus.

A few minutes before delivery, there may be some small movements, such as tightening the body, squatting, kicking hard, breathing faster, increasing the frequency of abdominal ups and downs, scratching and so on.

The contraction behavior of cats is an important indicator of labor.

Sweat is secreted, and experienced midwives will judge whether the baby is coming soon by cat hair. If cats have sticky secretions, cats usually give birth on the same day.

The birth experience of a female cat, like the above omen, is a series of physical changes such as sliminess, loss of appetite, anxiety, wandering around and scratching.

First, attach two family photos of the mother cat and six kittens.

I have a few experiences to share with you.

Before giving birth, consider preparing a cat cage large enough to force the cat to specify the location and location of the delivery room. On the one hand, prevent the mother cat from running around because of anxiety/pain; On the other hand, prevent the mother cat from finding inappropriate sources, such as under the bed, in the closet, and even in the toilet.

After the kitten is born, be sure to wipe the kitten's nose and mouth with clean toilet paper or towel to prevent choking.

If you have enough experience and skills in delivering babies, you can consider directly bathing the kitten, washing off the dirt and drying the water with a silent hair dryer. But if you have no experience, don't bathe the kitten.

Most female cats will handle all this by themselves. All you need to provide is nutritious food, clean and safe environment and suitable temperature.

But sometimes the situation is not so optimistic, you need to know the precautions between the expected date of delivery and some emergency treatment. Personally, if you don't reproduce, you should be sterilized as soon as possible. Female cat fertility is only an instinctive behavior caused by hormonal influence, but sterilization can prevent many reproductive system diseases, and the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. If you choose a regular pet hospital, you must have a physical examination before operation, and the success rate will be much higher.
