Why is Sailimu Lake called "the last tear of the Atlantic Ocean"

Sailimu Lake is called the last tear in the Atlantic Ocean, because it is the last place visited by the warm and humid air currents in the Atlantic Ocean. The ancient book of Sailimu Lake is also called Tianchi and Xiqinghai. Mongolian is called Sailimunur, which means "lake on the ridge", while Turkish "Sailimu" means "peace".

Sailimu Lake is located in Bozhou, Xinjiang, with an altitude of 2,073 meters, a length of about 30 kilometers from east to west, a width of about 25 kilometers from north to south, a circumference of 90 kilometers, an oval water area of 45.5-460 square kilometers, a maximum water depth of 92 meters, and a total storage capacity of 2 1 100 million cubic meters. It is the highest altitude and the largest alpine cold water lake in Xinjiang. Lake water is mainly replenished by groundwater except some small rivers around it. Due to its high position and large evaporation, the salinity of the lake is about 3 g/L, which is slightly salty and belongs to a slightly salty lake.

Extended data

Formation and evolution:

According to the existing research data, the tectonic evolution of Sailimu Lake area can be summarized into three stages:

(1), the assembling process of many ancient blocks before Sinian. By Sinian, the main body began to form a unified craton block, and generally accepted the unified caprock deposits represented by Sinian moraine and phosphorus-containing rock series in the Early Cambrian.

(2) The evolution process of the early and middle Paleozoic Xinjiang plate splitting and recombination. From the Middle Cambrian to the end of the Late Carboniferous, the complex history of continental plate expansion, separation and subduction collision was completed, and finally the basic structural framework of Xinjiang was formed, ending the structural evolution stage of separation and combination of multiple plates and land in the early and middle Paleozoic, and entering the same plate, that is, the structural evolution stage in the land.

(3) The evolution stage of intracontinental structure in Xinjiang since Late Paleozoic. At the end of Carboniferous and the beginning of Permian, the embryonic form of Eurasian plate was formed, and Xinjiang became a part of this global giant plate. However, on its south side, it is also faced with the closure of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean, the opening and final closure of the Neo-Tethys Ocean and the formation of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, which finally contributed to the tectonic subsidence lake-Sailimu Lake.
