Which platform is better for learning to draw online? What are the options?
Two? The world is so big and there are so many online classes. I only say what I know. It's safe. In fact, I have listened to many online classes of illustrators and learned about some institutions. Most of them are leek-cut. I don't like their style. I won't say who they are. There is no need to hate online. But there is an online class taught by a teacher. I especially like it. I often attended his class many years ago. He has been talking about it now. There will be a free open class of board drawing illustration at 8 o'clock every night, which will explain the knowledge very thoroughly. Even students with zero foundation can learn well, know what it is and why. This is the value of an excellent teacher. Students who want to listen to his courses can go to his WeChat (homophonic): the first group is w9, and the latter group is: Kaka can combine the above two groups in order.
In fact, students, if you are just starting to learn illustration, finding a good teacher is better than anything else. I used to like learning programming very much, but the teacher who taught us in those days was a wooden stick, talking nonsense, talking nonsense, and I didn't understand it at all, which led to a mess in our class. Finally, no one is engaged in programming, so a good teacher is a good starting point. On the contrary, it is poverty.
How can a partner who has no art foundation learn illustration well? 1. Tell a story about discovery first.
N years ago, when everyone was using beautiful photos as UI interface, I took a very satisfactory web interface I had just made and asked my friend a question: "If I didn't find so many good picture materials, how could I break it?" If there is no such excellent photographer and such good picture material in the world, how can it be broken? Is our excellent design just a fluke? "
Everyone is in the era of "originality" and "copyright". This question has been in my mind for a long time: How many of our designers' works are truly 100% original? It was not until I reread the History of World Graphic Design that I found that a poster painter and printer was more or less a painter as early as 100 years ago.
Because I have been trying to find the future development from the source of history, this detail has given me a great warning, that is, in the past, when there was no photography or the source of photographic pictures was not easy, the design of a poster usually required the creator to "draw" one by one, and also required the creator to "draw" the text himself. The original design should not be "spelled", but should be "painted".
This is in stark contrast to the fact that we now use its fonts and high-definition materials ... Although we will definitely publish the manuscript faster than before, we have lost the last thing that designers should lose, that is, the initial idea of creation. Designers should have arranged what color the sky should be and what actions the characters should have, but now they are all undertaken by the photographer's lens. The designer actually degenerated into a picker+assembler.
In fact, this conclusion is terrible. We all know that artificial intelligence will replace the basic work of most of us in the future, and material selection and assembly is a very basic work. As long as you have seen enough and mastered the rules, you can be competent. Who can see farther than a machine?
The main difference between us and machines is that we have emotions, so illustrations can just carry your personal feelings. This core is the reverse scheme I can think of: we can't compare speed and efficiency with machines, and the only advantage can only be our ideas.
Therefore, when I first started to learn illustration, I was eager to present my ideas completely. Although there were few interfaces that used illustrations as materials at that time. Most illustrations appear in packaging design or books with pictures, but I've always wanted to use illustrations in UI. And I didn't have a clue at that time, what kind of form is the most appropriate to present in the web page. Because in the past, the first two kinds of illustrations were mainly complex pictures, and the illustrations of books involved more children's books, so the illustrations at that time were mostly cartoon and lovely images. If these pictures are used in the UI interface, it is somewhat inconsistent with the flat and simple style that just began to prevail at that time.
Another area of illustration is the original game painting and CG illustration in the impression. Usually, the characters are very sexy, which helps the game company to publicize and stimulate the otaku's desire to click, and pays great attention to realism and running out.
2. Drawing is a way of thinking in the right brain.
Although I studied art before, I haven't had much contact with it since work. I always want to start writing again, but I have to turn on the computer because of work. Despite its artistic foundation, it has been frozen for a long time.
Sketch is the foundation, which probably no one will disagree with. But how to learn sketch is a big problem. Many people probably don't have the time and patience to start with boring geometry. The overwhelming courses on the Internet are mostly academic, and systematic learning takes a lot of time. So this is unscientific for 996 designers who are good at overtime. ...
A book I have always admired is Thinking Like an Artist: Learning to Draw in Five Days. After reading this book, you can actually learn to draw without practicing sketching so hard, and then draw as well as the academic school. As long as we find the core method, we can apply this method to any painting form, even a graffiti.
This book also helps you to clarify the most basic concepts of painting, such as space, modeling, light and shadow, perspective and so on. After this series of exercises, you may not be able to draw well, at least you can have a correct and profound understanding of painting.
I don't recommend too many related resources to everyone. In fact, a book is enough. In the process of painting, you will have new questions and new questions will release more new answers. You will find your own unique learning path, and I just provide a starting point for your reference.
3. Sketch and sketch: one input and one output.
Light and shadow not only make the picture three-dimensional, but many beginners are also confused about light and shadow. According to the feedback of students' homework in our graphic illustration learning society. Everyone's questions mainly focus on:
(1) No light source found.
(2) I don't know how to simplify light and shadow
(3) Ignore the color of light and shadow
(4) The details of light and shadow are easy to make mistakes.
……
(1) See the world through sketch.
In fact, the real world will always be a great treasure house for our learning inspiration. So this is also a sketch combined with the previous step. Sketch does not teach you to draw, but to observe.
You can observe an apple carefully and then draw it. In the process of painting, you can experience the changes of light and shadow caused by the light incident on the surface of the apple from the light source. These changes of light and shadow described by sketch have become the five basic colors in sketch.
The process of drawing an apple is the process of recording how light and matter interact. In this process, you will also observe the color and texture of the apple surface ... These information are connected in series, and you get not only the appearance of an apple, but how light works in this visual world. And this is the most critical information we need to get.
(2) Sketch the details of life.
Light and shadow are still hidden in all the details of life. If you don't have time to sketch, if you are busy commuting to work and taking the subway every day, you can still collect information by observing all the light and shadow presented in front of your eyes: for example, the light and shadow produced by the muscles on your boss's face, the light and shadow performance of a glass of water under a fluorescent lamp, your lover's fingers ... where is dark, where is bright, where is the shadow with boundaries, and where is the boundary blurred. ...
Sketching is a process to help observation, but observation can be in any form. So sketch can be simplified to sketch, one minute a day, and express an object quickly. On the way home from work, I bought a box of chocolates from a convenience store, a hat I liked but didn't buy, and a person's background. ...
Sketch can be drawn on A4 paper or napkin. You can use pencils, pens and so on. Do not stick to form.
Sketching and sketching are definitely the two wings of learning illustration. One is used to help you see the visual relationship clearly, and the other is used to express everything you see. One input, one output. The two should not be neglected.
(3) Two rhythms.
When you start to learn to draw, you should always practice sketching, and it is not too much to draw one picture a day. First, you can draw round objects, such as fruit. You can slowly draw square objects, tables and stools. Then I will make it more difficult for myself, such as drawing something a little more complicated, such as shoes and houses.
When the objects are almost drawn, you can draw people, plants and animals, and gradually expand to outdoor scenes, indoor scenery and so on. People can be studied last, because it is the most difficult.
It's been almost half a year. I'm going to keep this pace for a day or two to learn sketch, and I can stand loneliness. Watching your painting skills grow, you can try to start sketching.
Sketch uses the rhythm of quick expression. Therefore, you can't draw it in detail, but you can show it roughly. Sketch can be done quickly, so practice for ten minutes every day to show all kinds of scenes and things that appear in front of you, and draw wherever you want. A pencil sharpener, a tree, a mountain and so on.
At this time, after I feel that my sketch foundation is solid, I can reduce the frequency of sketch practice and use sketch instead of sketch. Sketch can be changed to once a week or once every half a month, and sketch can be one o'clock every day, 1~5 minutes, mainly to imagine the scene. If you decide to draw a mouse today and suddenly can't remember the details of the mouse, you can take a look at the mouse and observe it again. Don't look at the painting, leave the object itself and continue painting.
In the end, we should achieve an effect: express the quality of sketch quickly with the speed of sketch, and draw light and shadow details without referring to objects. At this time, it can be said that the basic stage is almost over, and it can be delayed. But this exercise should continue all the time and never be discarded.
Rooted in art
In fact, there are many forms of painting: oil painting, watercolor painting, gouache painting, acrylic painting, pencil painting, ink painting, woodcut … too many. But do we all have to study? Of course not! You can refer to my learning path here.
(A) from colored lead to advanced watercolor
At first, I was keen on sketching, but I felt that black, white and gray were a bit boring when painting, and I was very interested in color. So, I thought of using colored lead instead of sketch. The charm of colored lead is that overlapping painting can be used, especially when oily colored lead is superimposed in different color levels, the effect will look more attractive than sketch.
So I use colored lead instead, but the most important thing is to see if I really like it. In this process, interest is very important. Because I am a freelancer, for a period of time, I took orders to do design during the day and sat at my desk at night to practice colored lead.
At first, we mainly used copying, because you will find that colored lead and sketch, although both pencils, are quite different. When you are proficient, you can try to draw on the photo. Learn to create details, not copy them.
Colored lead can help you understand the expression of color. For example, in the expression of light and shadow, the shadow is not only dark, but also mixed with other colors: the color of the surrounding light, the color of the next object, the color of the object itself and so on.
Besides colored lead, I also like watercolor very much, so I began to learn watercolor later. Watercolor still has different styles of expression, but its color logic is similar to that of colored lead, and it is also gradually layered until it can finally express a complete object. It's just that watercolor looks bolder and can deconstruct an object more thoroughly.
Watercolor is to strengthen your control of color, just like the feeling of colored lead plus. So in my system, watercolor is an advanced course of colored lead.
At the same time, I also learned the artistic expressions of Chinese painting, calligraphy and so on. Comics and line styles can help me understand line expressions and so on.
(2) Hand-drawing is not equal to hand-drawing board.
It can be said that learning any form of hand-drawn painting is a package that can be freely matched according to one's own taste. Although they are not directly related to illustrations, they can help you get to the core of artistic creation, which can't be told by any teacher, course or book, and can't be conveyed to you in language.
After this degree of edification, you will really become a creator, not a plagiarist. I won't complain that I can only copy. I know all the techniques, but it's difficult to create.
