Ou Jifu, Georgia (1887~ 1986)

From 19 15 to 19 16, Ou Jifu sent some sketches to a friend in new york and asked her not to show them to anyone. This friend broke his promise, but it started Ou Jifu's future artistic career.

Alfred Stieglitz is already very famous. He was not only a photographer, but also recommended the most promising European and American painters at that time through his 29 1 gallery. He was deeply attracted by Ou Jifu's paintings. 19 16 included her in the 29 1 group exhibition, 19 17 held a solo exhibition for Ou Jifu. Their relationship began when he died in 1946.

After Ou Jifu moved to new york, Steve Grice left his wife to stay with Ou Jifu, and Ou Jifu began to paint. He held an exhibition for her and took hundreds of photos of her. They got married on 1924, but their union was unconventional. In more than 25 years, moral support has become even more formal. Steve Grice stayed in new york, while Ou Jifu was more and more attracted by the scenery of New Mexico.

Ou Jifu's works were well received in the first exhibition, and her fame never left her. Although there were not many important exhibitions after Steve Grice's death, people did not forget her. Her works do not belong to any genre, and her style is as personal as her life. Ou Jifu almost only wears black clothes and has a unique personality. She only accepts people who she thinks are talented or interested.

Ou Jifu's early works, whether painting trees, flowers or landscapes, convey her world outlook on life. Dead animal bones, dead wood or desert scenery are life or death. It seems that for her, life and death have become one, and there is an energy beyond short life in her paintings, which may be related to her being influenced by oriental thought. Her colors are sensitive and delicate, meticulous and mysterious. In her works, plants and landscapes are both forms of life. She once said: "The unspeakable things in nature have made me feel the vastness of the world beyond my cognition. I try to find infinity through art forms and understand them through the horizon or distant mountains. 」
