[Scenery] rose lake

The content of this article is taken from the main article of chinese national geography, No.05, 202 1:

Because the scenery in rose lake is really beautiful, I can't help but want to share it with you!

One day in August, when Wang Chen, a photographer from Shenzhen, flew over the Badain Jaran Desert by helicopter, he found:

In a depression in the golden desert, an oval, pink and purple "seal" appeared. On closer inspection, it turned out to be a salt lake that was about to dry up.

The cracked salt shells on the surface of salt lakes are mostly bright pink and purple, pink and crimson, and light brown, khaki and dark green, which can be described as colorful.

Not far from this pink and purple "Seal Salt Lake", there is a bigger salt lake.

This salt lake should be newly dried up soon, and the bottom of the lake shows white salinity. On a large white "floor", there are many burgundy patches scattered in the yellow desert, which constitute a strange abstract painting pattern.

These rose lake with white saline-alkali as the "base" are dotted with countless Burgundy patches, just like a natural abstract painting.

"rose lake" is a brief "Chishui" landscape.

In the arid and semi-arid inland areas of China, it is a special and rare lake, and its lake has a peculiar pink color, which looks like a "pink gem" embedded in the soil from high altitude.

The birth of rose lake was caused by three main factors: geography, climate and biology.

(1) Geographical factors

China's rose lake basically has a common feature: they are all located in low-lying and closed basins.

In the arid and semi-arid areas in the west, there is little precipitation and evaporation. Rose lake is located in a low-lying closed basin, which has obvious advantages: it can collect surface runoff from the surrounding highlands.

In addition, due to the low terrain of rose lake, groundwater can be continuously replenished to rose lake through the infiltration of topographic differences.

In the absence of flowing water from other rivers (or lakes), groundwater recharge is very important to maintain the balance of water quantity and salinity in Ross Lake.

(2) climatic factors

Rose lake can only be formed in the western region with less precipitation and strong evaporation in China.

The heavy rainfall in the eastern coastal areas is not conducive to the formation of a high salinity saline environment to breed those aquatic organisms.

These colorful aquatic creatures are the direct cause of the formation of rose lake.

(3) Biological factors

Rose lake's dazzling pink or other reds are mainly attributed to three species in the lake: Artemia, Dunaliella salina and halophilic bacteria.

It is their own colors that "dye" the lake into rose lake.

Taxonomically, Artemia belongs to the genus Artemia of Arthropoda, which is widely distributed in high salinity water bodies such as coastal salt fields and inland salt lakes in the world.

As a halophyte, Artemia can tolerate high salinity and even live in nearly saturated salt water. With the increase of water salinity, astaxanthin in Artemia increases continuously, and its body color will become more and more red.

Every summer, with the increase of salinity in the lake, Dunaliella salina and Halobacterium halophila proliferate in large numbers, making the surface of the salt lake look amazing and dazzling.

Rose lake has video recordings in at least four places in China.

(1) rose lake Group in Badain Jilin, Inner Mongolia (the densest rose lake Group in China)

(2) Torrekule Lake in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

(3) Ejinaer Lake in Inner Mongolia

(4) Zhabuye Chaka Lake in Tibet (4,429 meters above sea level, the highest in rose lake in the world).

Of course, even rose lake is not always rosy.

Only under the cooperation of high temperature, high salt and rich nutrition in summer can those aquatic creatures with different colors grow the most abundantly and have the most gorgeous colors.
