The difference between printing and developing

Do you know the difference between developing photos and printing photos? Come and have a look with me.

Introduction to photo printing

Laser developing photos. It is the cutting-edge technology of the photosensitive industry. Digital printing (printing) is a method of making digital photos at high speed and high quality by exposing digital images on colored paper and then outputting color photos. Gloss and color are very bright, and the photos will not fade even if they are washed with water.

Inkjet print photos. Printed photos are made of colored ink * *, which is not only incorrect in color, but also easy to fade and not last long. And the ink used in the printed photos is divided into several grades. In order to get the maximum profit, many shops use continuous domestic ink. If you use original ink, the cost is much more expensive than the printed photos. The printed photos will fade in less than 2 years, and you don't even know who that person is. Moreover, in order to be waterproof, it is necessary to seal the plastic, so the general printing shop is free to seal the plastic.

Digital printing (development) is to expose a digital image on a silver salt color photographic materials through an exposure engine, and then develop it through a chemical development process to form a photo. Printing a photo means printing an image on photographic paper with an inkjet printer to form a photo. There is a big difference between the two in principle. Printing (developing) photos is a process of chemical reaction, while printing photos is a process of physical reaction, which is essentially different. The following is a detailed comparison between them:

The difference between photo development and printing

1, output quality

Professional digital printing (development) mainly adopts Kodak or Fuji's large-scale laser printing (development) equipment, and the photos printed (developed) by these large-scale equipment are quite satisfactory in color, clarity and layering. Photo printing technology has been constantly developing and improving, and now the printing effect is similar to that of large-scale laser printing, especially for some professional photo printers. Ordinary people should carefully distinguish the difference between the two. Summary: Laser digital printing (printing) is slightly better than photo printer, but it is difficult for ordinary people to tell the difference between printing and high-quality printing.

2, photo preservation

The final imaging material and principle of photo printing (development) are similar to those of original film printing (development), so the preservation time of photos is similar. According to the difference of photographic paper and liquid medicine provided by the printer, some claim to have been preserved for 60 years, and some are more than 100 years. Waterproof to a certain extent, of course, it is best to add plastic packaging or a cold table or pay attention to moistureproof during storage. It is a well-known problem that photos are easy to fade in printing, especially when you don't buy those genuine inks with a box of several hundred yuan. It is common to find that fading is common in a few months. But now a printed matter also promotes that photos will not fade for 60 or 70 years. The photos are printed in waterproof ink, which is waterproof to some extent. Of course, the above situation must be said in an environment that avoids strong light, ultraviolet rays and * *. Summary: photo printing (development) and high-quality printing can be preserved for a long time under certain preservation conditions.

3. Different materials

Their photo papers are made of different materials. The surface of printed (developed) photographic paper is coated with red, green and blue photosensitive dyes. After exposure, a latent image is formed, and then a stable image is formed by developing, bleaching, stabilizing and drying. The developed photographic paper is usually white. There are many kinds of materials for printing photos, such as ordinary photo paper, metal paper such as gold paper, silver foil paper or coated paper, and thick cloth.

4. Imaging accuracy

The resolution of digital printing (printing) photos is about 200~600dpi. For example, the resolution of 5~6 inch photos is 300 ~ 400 dpi, and that of 24~48 inch photos with large format is 250~300dpi, so the photos are very delicate with naked eyes. The resolution of the printer is nominally 1200dpi, even exceeding 2800~5000dpi, but the resolution of the printer is calculated by the number of ink dots per inch, while the resolution of printing (development) is calculated by the number of pixels per inch. The more colors a printer cartridge has, the higher the nominal resolution. The theoretical resolution should be about 300dpi, but the actual resolution is about 250dpi due to the penetration of ink dots and the error of printing and paper feeding.

5, color reproduction

It should be said that digital photos with bright colors, high saturation and excellent restoration can be output whether they are developed or printed. However, due to the high price of the original ink cartridge of the printer, most merchants use the replacement ink cartridge, which is definitely inferior in dynamic range and color gamut space, but it is just invisible to ordinary people.

6. Equipment efficiency

Digital printing (developing) equipment is a commercial equipment suitable for mass production. In addition, it is operated and maintained by professional printing (developing) technicians, and the quality of each batch of printed (developed) photos is very stable. Although photo printing can be used at home, if the printing volume is particularly large, the printing speed should be considered. From a security point of view, photo printing is safer and more reliable. But unless you have special needs, generally speaking, it is of little significance and probability to give up the choice of photo printing (printing) for privacy and security issues, which is not worth the candle.
