Why is Jiangning Fangshan called Nanjing Volcano?

Fangshan Mountain in Jiangning, Nanjing is called Nanjing Volcano because it used to be a volcano and became an extinct volcano hundreds of years ago. Later, it was called Fangshan because the three directions of the mountain were square, so it was called Fangshan.

Fangshan, Jiangning District, Nanjing is located in the Science Park of Jiangning District, Nanjing. It is a Pingdingshan with an area of nearly 8 square kilometers. Seen from a distance, the mountain looks like a square seal.

There are many scenic spots on the mountain. Ding Lin Temple, located on Fangshan Mountain, has a history of nearly 1500 years and is a famous temple in Jinling. Ding Lin Temple can be divided into? Go to Ding Lin Temple? 、? Xiading Lin Temple? Divided into two parts, Xiadinglin Temple was founded in Jingping of Song Dynasty, and Shangdinglin Temple was founded in Yuanjia of Liu Song Dynasty. Writer Liu Xie wrote Wen Xin Diao Long in Dinglin Temple.

In Ding Lin Temple, there is a Ding Lin Temple Tower, which was built in the Southern Song Dynasty. It's a seven-story and eight-sided imitation wood structure. Later, due to disrepair, the tower gradually tilted at an angle of more than five degrees, even surpassing the world-famous Leaning Tower of Pisa, Italy.

The uniqueness of Fangshan is mainly due to the accumulation of basalt from volcanoes thousands of years ago, which gradually formed Fangshan. Under the basalt, there are gravels and fossils deposited in ancient rivers. Fangshan mainly refers to a three-story building structure composed of rock, basalt, gravel and sandstone.
