Brief introduction of the first person drifting on the Yangtze River

Yao Maoshu, a native of Leshan City, Sichuan Province,1was born in the downtown area of Leshan on April 4, 950. On July 24th, 1985, drifting1270km later, he died on the rocks of Jinsha River. Yao Maoshu was a photographer in the audio-visual classroom of Southwest Jiaotong University. He was the first person to drift along the Yangtze River.

At the beginning of 1986, five newspapers, including Shenyang Youth Daily and Contemporary Youth Daily, recommended Yao Maoshu as one of the "Top Ten Young People in China" in 1985. In April, * * * Youth Sichuan Provincial Committee awarded Yao Maoshu the honorary title of "the first batch of outstanding young people who drifted along the Yangtze River and devoted themselves to the motherland". 1988. 1989, Leshan Municipal People's Government, Leshan Municipal Committee of Communist Youth League and Leshan Youth Federation Association built a statue of Yao Maoshu in Xiaogongzui Square at the intersection of Minjiang River, Dadu River and Qingyi River as a permanent memorial. Later, the statue was moved to the vicinity of the Yangtze River Market, and now the statue is completely new, and the heroic spirit of the warriors shines again.
