Director John Curran is a Hollywood director. His short film Rusty was shown in many film festivals around the world, and won the 1997 French clermont-ferrand Short Film Festival Exploration Award and the 1997 International Short Film Festival Best Short Film Award. His 1998 film "Praise" won international film festival awards such as Toronto International Film Festival.

The photographer of this film, Stuart Dryburgh (BJ's Diary and Sex and the City), was nominated for an Oscar for filming 1994 piano class, while his photography director "My Father's Cabin" won the best photography award at the Shanghai Film Festival.

The artist Tu Juhua's works include Forever Accompanying, Jing Ke Stabbed the King of Qin and so on. In addition, the gorgeous dress in the veil was designed by internationally renowned fashion designer Ruth Miles, who won many awards.

Antique clothes

The film is set in the 1920s, especially in the choice of clothes. The crew invited Ruth Miles, a designer who is proficient in British clothes, to do the work herself, and she tailored a dozen sets of various old British women's dresses for the heroine. These clothes may be inconspicuous in people's eyes, but in fact, they are all antiques with a history of nearly a hundred years. The designer found many clothes from England that were 80 years ago, and then re-made them according to the heroine's figure.

Actors in China learn English.

The producers frankly chose Huang Qiusheng and Yu Xia to join the film not only because of their fancy acting skills, but also because of the large number of English lines in the play. These China actors have a lot of English dialogues in the movies, but their characters are from China, so they can't speak English. Huang Qiusheng made up his mind from the beginning, and Yu Xia was chosen on the spot after talking directly with the director in English.

Photography point

The film "The Veil" should be the first western film about China filmed in China for a long time. 10 day, the crew traveled more than 8,000 kilometers, trying to find ancient villages and towns close to mountains and rivers and modern facilities to provide convenience for the crew and production companies. Finally, Guangxi became the best place.

At first, the producer had planned to build Meitan House in the valley of Guangxi, but the huge workload scared everyone. Later, after several searches, I finally found the ancient town of Huangyao. Huangyao, located in Zhaoping County, Guangxi, has a history of thousands of years and is known as the "dreamland". It is one of the four ancient towns in China. Besides shooting in Huangyao ancient town, I also went to Yizhou, Guangxi, the hometown of Sanjie Liu, with a history of more than 265,438+000 years. The beautiful natural scenery of Xiajian River, big waterwheel and northern Hunan in Yizhou deeply attracted the hearts of the crew.
