"The Climber" allows us to see the spirit of Mount Everest

The film "The Climber" dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the motherland in 2019 shows us the Everest spirit of never giving up, heroic and fearless patriotism.

The film begins with the first climbers to climb Mount Everest in 1960. The old team leader suddenly encountered danger, and Fang Wuzhou (played by Wu Jing) was ordered to lead the team to the summit successfully. However, because he lost his camera in order to save team member Qu Songlin (played by Zhang Yi) on the way, no photos or other evidence were left behind even after reaching the summit. This has become an excuse for the international community not to recognize China's summit of Mount Everest.

This time, the climb to the summit of Mount Everest came at a great cost, especially the casualties. This fact is not recognized by the international community. The three people who climbed Mount Everest were also scattered to different places, and they were not welcomed.

Fifteen years later, the country decided to form a mountaineering team again and re-appointed the three summit members as coaches to train these new members. In May 1975, they marched towards Mount Everest again. Qu Songlin is the deputy commander-in-chief, and Fang Wuzhou is the commando captain.

However, this time there were twists and turns. When encountering danger for the first time, many team members were injured, including Fang Wuzhou who was injured while trying to save Xu Ying (played by Zhang Ziyi), a meteorological team member.

Young team member Li Guoliang volunteered to be the commando captain and lead the commandos to climb mountains during the window period. Fang Wuzhou did not agree to his request because of his lack of experience. But Qu Songlin was eager to complete the unfinished task that year and agreed to his request.

When Xu Ying, a meteorological team member, detected a wind of about level 10 and suggested that the commandos camp for a while, Qu Songlin still issued an order to continue climbing. As a result, Li Guoliang was martyred.

In contrast, Qu Songlin worked as a part-time photographer 15 years ago. Between life and his camera, Fang Wuzhou decisively abandoned his camera and chose to save Qu Songlin's life. But it was precisely because he didn't have a camera that he couldn't keep any photos. This has always been a hurdle that Qu Songlin couldn't get over.

This time Li Guoliang was the photographer. He chose between life and the camera and handed the camera to his teammates, but cut the rope and gave up his life. He was worried that he would drag his teammates into a deep ditch. He chose to give up his own life and let his teammates continue to complete the mission.

The window period has passed. According to the forecast of the Central Weather Bureau, the mountaineering team should evacuate. However, Xu Ying, a meteorological expert on site, detected that there would be a short window period, and she persuaded the leaders to try to continue climbing.

While everyone was arguing endlessly, Fang Wuzhou chose to believe her and personally led the mountaineering commando to climb the mountain again. In order to provide more accurate figures, Xu Ying led some weather inspectors to climb the mountain with the commando team.

However, Xu Ying became seriously ill and died during the journey, and her love affair with Fang Wuzhou did not come to fruition after all. In the end, Fang Wuzhou led 9 members of the team to successfully reach the summit, planted the five-star red flag on the top of Mount Everest, and detected the exact height of Mount Everest. Later, this height has been used internationally.

Jackie Chan starred as Yang Guang in 2019. He was a mountaineering team member in mid-1975. He had a leg amputated during that mountaineering trip. Now he wears a prosthetic leg to climb Mount Everest again. Dad's wish was finally fulfilled.

The entire film shows the strange and dangerous experiences of the mountaineers during their climb to Mount Everest. There are strong winds, snow mountain collapses, etc. The characters are drawn very well.

For example, Qu Songlin’s impatient personality. The first time when Fang Wuzhou led the commando to climb the mountain, he still issued the order to climb the mountain even though the weatherman said there was a strong wind; the second time when Fang Wuzhou was injured, he actually agreed with Li Guoliang He led the mountaineering team to climb the mountain. At a certain turning point, the weather team also reported that the weather was not suitable to continue climbing, but he still issued the order to climb the mountain.

It wasn't until Li Guoliang's death that he woke up from his dream and took on the responsibility for the safety of the mountaineers. Of course, his impatience comes from his eagerness to make up for the regret of losing his camera.

Climbing Mount Everest, the roof of the world, is a very serious challenge. This is also an opportunity to prove China to the world. Therefore, these mountaineers have the tenacity to win glory for the country. They have persistent beliefs and deep love for their motherland. They are our heroes.
