What is photography?

Photography has a history of less than 200 years since its birth, and the history on our rooftop is even shorter. From the day the camera was installed, recording became its main function, which may be regarded as the main difference between photography and other arts. The old photos left from the rooftop vividly recorded the historical process of the rooftop, from iron and steel smelting to water conservancy construction, from advanced model workers to ordinary people, from Jianghu to parades, from citizen life to historical events ... We would like to thank several old photographers for showing us all the stages of the times. Photography has given us a more real history than words and paintings, a mirror of self-care, some memories and warmth for the future. These images have become the collective memory of the times, but unfortunately, there were too few people who could afford to play with cameras on the rooftop before, and many histories will become distant and blurred because there are no images left. With the development of economy and the progress of technology, the popularity of digital cameras has changed the situation that photography is a special tool for a few people. Looking at today's images ten or twenty years later must be a different scene.

Photography, as an art, is certainly more than a simple record. A master photographer once said, "Aesthetics and humanistic care are the two most important factors in photography." This is a useful inspiration for us. Rooftop photography relies on the beautiful landscape of Tiantai Mountain and the history and culture of Buddhism and Taoism. After decades of development, certain achievements have been made, artistic language has been continuously enriched, subject matter has been continuously expanded, and vision has become more delicate. Looking at photographs on the rooftop, you can feel the photographer's feeling of walking and find the expression of beauty in the mountains and rivers. Rooftop photography has a valuable place, which is to go its own way. Everyone has his own unique shooting angle, independent, diligent in thinking and trying to find his own artistic feeling. Art is essentially the expression of the artist's soul, and photography is no exception. The seemingly objective picture contains the photographer's value judgment, perception of beauty and knowledge cultivation. In short, it reflects the photographer's inner world, the photographer's outlook on life, values and aesthetic taste.

Taking pictures of people, in addition to the camera function and photography technology, it is more important to have knowledge, self-cultivation, rich inner world and loving feelings. Because photography is the expression of the mind.
