What is the montage effect of TV?

Definition: montage is a transliteration of French montage, originally an architectural term, meaning composition and collection. In film art, it is an international film term to express the editing and combination of shots, that is, the combination relationship and contact information of shots.

Soviet montage theory

(1) Kuleshov (1899-1970) was the founder of the montage school in the former Soviet union.

With the help of this experiment, Kuleshov proved that new meaning and new artistic quality can be obtained by juxtaposing different shots purposefully.

Kuleshov saw the possibility, rationality and psychological basis of montage and founded the theory of "film mode". He came to the conclusion that it is not the content of a single shot that causes the emotional reaction of the film, but the juxtaposition between several pictures; A single shot is only the material, and only by creating montage can it become a film art. He put forward a positive creative program: the structural basis of the film comes not from the real material, but from the spatial structure and montage.

Kuleshov explained the montage effect of "creative photography" and "creative geography" through this experiment, and also explained the narrative function of "montage".

Eisenstein (1898 ——1948) raised montage from film technology to film aesthetics for the first time in the world film history.

Key point: The juxtaposition of two montage shots is not the sum of two numbers, but the product of two numbers.

Vaudeville montage:

Ansenstein comprehensively expounded his drama theory-vaudeville montage in the article "Vaudeville Montage", and advocated that wonderful, unforgettable and unexpected performance segments should be the basis of drama, and the particularly wonderful moments that would cause some emotional shock should be synthesized under a unified theme.

In fact, the montage of vaudeville is to separate two shots taken at different times and places from the original continuity of time and space. If they are connected in some way, it will produce a new look and an inherent concept in the shots of unedited films. Although they are not related to each other, they are listed together according to the editor's wishes, but they often produce a "third thing" that goes against the original intention and become interrelated.

In other words, Eisenstein tried to form a triple meaning beyond the two shots through the intentional combination of two different shots, and the intentional combination of the two shots produced a new meaning of "1+ 1 > 2".

The role of montage
