What is backlight?

Backlight is a state in which the subject is just between the light source and the camera, which easily leads to underexposure of the subject. Generally speaking, photographers should try to avoid shooting objects in the case of backlight, but sometimes the special effect produced by backlight can also be regarded as an artistic photography technique.

Backlight is the antonym of smooth light, which is the light obliquely incident on the subject from the back of the subject, that is, in front of the camera lens, so it is also called backlight. Although this kind of light comes from the back of the object, which makes most of the object in the shadow, it can produce a bright light wheel at the edge of the object, which is in sharp contrast with the shadow. Positive and negative light is easy to cause strong sunlight to enter the lens surface when shooting, so in other cases, except shooting sunrise and sunset, the camera should be placed in the shadow. Generally speaking, photographers often use side backlights.
