Skills of taking good photos in dark light

For portrait photography, unfavorable lighting conditions can be called bad lighting. Different from the concept of meteorology, cloudy days, foggy days and low temperatures are not bad weather for portrait photography. On the contrary, the weather in Wan Li, which is considered by meteorology, has brought us a lot of trouble in taking portraits at the right time. Here are some tips for taking good photos in poor light. Welcome to reading.

1, looking for different colors.

The advantage of sunset and sunrise is that they can depict the most beautiful lines and features in the landscape with balanced colors. However, when the weather is bad, natural light simply cannot provide enough and balanced colors for photos that need rich colors. To create a colorful image, we must find a vivid theme. On cloudy days, the light will become soft. At this time, you can look for soft colors C, which are not easy to see in the sunset, such as light purple and blue. These colors may not be obvious in the light of sunset or sunrise, but gray days can make them stand out. After the storm, you can also take beautiful pictures with saturated colors. Even in the dark sky, the green of the tropical rain forest is always conspicuous. As a landscape photographer, remember to bring your polarizing filter!

2. Unique details

Although the best shooting time is in sunny or well-lit environment, sometimes the quality of detail-oriented photos taken on cloudy days is very high. To some extent, this is because cloudy days are too monotonous, and C photos rarely increase readers' interest through the dull sky. But cloudy clouds also have unique textures. The most important thing is to ask yourself whether they are helpful to your composition. If the sky is not interesting, it will not increase the interest of photos. The photo above clearly shows that the sky is gloomy, but the exposure of the ground and a little light highlight its beauty in this silence, so you can look for unique details when shooting the scenery on a cloudy day, and then use the soft light on a cloudy day to highlight the main body.

Step 3 shoot at close range

Macro photography is an effective way to highlight the main details on cloudy days. Cloudy days provide shallow shadows, allowing us to see the true color and tone of a close-up object. Some macro photographers like to use flash, but clouds can also make photos have wonderful light. The color of close-range shooting is more natural and saturated than that of long-range shooting, because there is almost no fog between the lens and the subject, so the macro world is full of color. Usually in the case of heavy rain, you can also shoot water droplets on plants. The geometric patterns of water droplets can be beautiful, and they are ideal objects under cloudy conditions.

4. Long exposure

On cloudy days, a photo may lose its original unique feeling, but there is actually a quick and convenient solution: use a neutral density filter. Because the neutral density filter is a glass darkening plate, we can also use ultra-slow shutter speed during the day. Of course, such a filter will not help every scene; For many people, the impact is not great. However, long exposure can provide completely different images.

Long exposure will also highlight colors that are difficult to see with the naked eye. If you expose yourself for a long time before dawn, you may find unexpected surprises even if the sky is cloudy. The above photos were taken under long exposure. Do you feel less boring?

5. Use black and white mode

Since the rise of color photography, few modern people will pursue black-and-white photography, perhaps because they think black-and-white photography is too boring. But I often think it is more effective and poetic than color photography. Under the cloudy sky, high-contrast monochrome photos can still convey the aesthetic feeling of drama, which cannot be presented in gloomy colors. To some extent, black-and-white photography itself is a surreal style.

People often like landscape photos, and they hope to express a better world in them. For example, shooting scenery in the sunset can show the most beautiful and moving scenery. Monochrome photography does not have the same vividness, but the contrast of black and white photos is high, and black and white can also highlight the beauty of the subject.

6. Make full use of the midday sun

Although the photographer agrees to shoot in sunny weather, sometimes too strong light will make the image ineffective. For example, the dazzling sunshine at noon will make the subject have extra shadows, which is really annoying sometimes. On the one hand, it is difficult to avoid harsh shadows and bright highlights, which may make your photos a mess. But I don't think we can avoid bright light forever. You just need to take advantage of the strong sunlight to create a unique image. When shooting the details of some objects or buildings, the shadows caused by strong light have the opportunity to bring characteristics to the subject and enrich the composition.
