Zhang Yimou,1born in Xi, Shaanxi Province on April 2, 950, is a film director in China, one of the representatives of the "fifth generation directors", honorary doctor of Boston University and Yale University, and distinguished professor of Beijing Film Academy.

1978 entered the photography department of Beijing Film Academy. 1982 was assigned to Guangxi Film Studio after graduation. 1984 worked as a photographer for the first time in the film One and Eight, and won the China Film Excellent Photographer Award. 1986 starred in the first film "Old Well" and won three best actors. The first film "Red Sorghum" directed by 1987 won the Golden Bear Award at the first China International Film Festival.
