How much does a hippo weigh?
jerboa
Artiodactyla, seabuckthorn, English name hoppopotamus. Among all the deep-water rivers and streams in Africa, the range has been reduced, mainly living among rivers in tropical Africa. They like to live in swamps and places with reeds by the river. Foraging, mating, calving and breastfeeding in life are also carried out in water.
Hippopotamus is characterized by a wide nose and mouth, a large mouth, short and thick limbs and a body like a barrel. Stomach cavity 3 does not ruminate. The nostrils are above the nose and mouth, in line with the eyes and ears. In this way, it can smell, see, listen and breathe as long as it sticks its head out of the water.
The body length is 3.75-4.6 meters, the tail length is about 56 centimeters, the shoulder height is about 1.5 meters, and the weight is 3-4.6 tons. The lower canine tooth is about 60 centimeters long and can weigh 3 kilograms. The fluid discharged from hippopotamus skin contains red pigment, which turns red after skin reflection, causing hippopotamus to say "blood and sweat"
Hippos are very good swimmers. When they are frightened, they usually avoid going into the water. I spend most of my time in the water every day. When I am submerged, I usually put my head out of the water to breathe every 3 or 5 minutes, but I can leave the water for about half an hour to breathe. Their skin will dry and crack if they don't drink water for a long time.
Hippos move in pairs or in groups, and older males often move alone. Nocturnal: they sleep or rest in the river or riverside almost all day, come out for food at night, and sometimes swim more than 30 kilometers downstream for food. Mainly feed on aquatic plants; I occasionally eat land crops, mainly grass, and sometimes I go to the fields to eat crops. When food is scarce, they also eat meat. It is said that hippopotamus is the largest carnivore (omnivore) on the road. Hippo has not settled down: it doesn't stay in one place for a long time, but moves to a new place every few days.
The breeding period of hippos is not fixed, and they breed all year round. Each baby is born 227-240 days, and the baby weighs 27-45 kg at birth. Sexual maturity is about 3 years old under artificial feeding, and mature at 5 or 6 years old in the wild. Life span is 40-50 years.
The subcutaneous fat of hippopotamus is about 5 cm thick. People often hunt for its fat, meat and thick skin. Fat can grow to 90 kilograms. The local people cherish its meat very much. The quality of teeth is also very good.
Hippos look heavy and simple, but in fact they run much faster on the shore than people. In Africa, hippos kill the most people (more than crocodiles) among wild animals. Hippos are extremely aggressive, especially when they are about to return to the water from the shore. If other creatures get in the way, hippos will rush to obstacles angrily. Hippos have sharp teeth and great strength. Adult hippos can bite off crocodiles in one bite! So travel to Africa and stay away from hippos!
Japanese hippopotamus
A family of hippopotamus of Artiodactyla.
Japanese hippopotamus only lives in Ivory Coast, Liberia, Sierra Leone and their adjacent areas in West Africa. Habitat in streams, wet forests and swamps. Body length 1.5- 1.75m, tail length 16cm, shoulder height 0.75- 1m, and adult weight can reach 160-240kg. In appearance, Japanese hippopotamus is just an embryonic hippopotamus, but their structures are different. The head of Japanese hippopotamus is round, not as wide and flat as that of hippopotamus. Eyes in the first two, and not as prominent as hippos; There is only one pair of upper incisors, while hippos have two pairs.
Japanese hippos usually live alone or in pairs, sleep during the day and wander in the Woods at night, foraging for buds, leaves and fallen fruits. The gestation period of each newborn is 20 1-2 10 days, and the newborn weighs 3-5kg. Life span is 17-40 years. Japanese hippos are rare in number and have been protected. There is no other economic value except meat. Locals cherish their meat, which is said to taste like wild boar.
