The most obvious example is the release of Huawei p50e. Compared with the ordinary p50, this model has two major differences. First, the processor was changed from Snapdragon 888 to Snapdragon 778. The second is the color array of the main camera sensor, which is changed from RGGB to RYYB.

For p50e, the main camera adopts ryyb array, which is not a problem in itself. But the biggest problem is whether the ai computing power of the chip can solve the color cast problem of ryyb with the soc of Snapdragon 778.

Compared with the standard version of p50, p50e can be said to enhance the imaging technology, but the overall experience has dropped a lot. The overall performance of Snapdragon 778 is definitely not as good as that of Snapdragon 888. Although Snapdragon 888 has a serious fever when eating performance, it is estimated that users who buy Huawei p50 series will not use this machine to play games, and most of them are bought by HarmonyOS System+Computational Optics.

Snapdragon 778 soc itself is a mid-range chip, but Huawei sold p50e with this chip for 4000+. In this price range, p50e's market competitiveness is very poor, except in software ecology and photography, other aspects can hardly beat the products at the same price in the same period.

For the concept of computational optics in mobile phone photography, on the one hand, it depends on the overall computing power of soc, on the other hand, it depends on the coms quality of mobile phone lens.

However, at the press conference of p50 series, Yu Chengdong didn't mention anything about the suppliers of mobile phone lenses, but spent a lot of time talking about the advantages of computational optics. If I guess correctly, the main cameras of p50 series should all be proud sensors. Compared with Sony, Howe's sensor is not like Bisogni in the period, and it can only make up for the lack of hardware through algorithms.

Many users usually buy mobile phones just to see how the processor is, and the sex is not strong enough. After using it for several years, it will not be stuck. As for how to take pictures, scanning the code to take a picture of a landscape and a person is enough. Unless you are very interested in mobile phone photography and have requirements for mobile phone lens modules and algorithms, most people rarely use computational optics and periscope to zoom.

Moreover, the NPU computing power of Snapdragon 778 is not as good as that of Huawei's Kirin 990 three years ago. On the calculation of optical level, p50e is definitely much worse than p50. Not to mention that Huawei has also replaced rggb with ryyb, which requires higher computing power of soc and the overall experience will be much worse.

Although Huawei is now struggling in the field of mobile terminals, the overall experience of p50e is really not as strong as that of friends. Moreover, it is a 4G model, the market competitiveness is too weak, and the price has reached the price of 4000+. It is expected that mass users will not buy it.
