Nao Tao: Because of the translation a while ago, for the first time, I truly realized that there are really such things in people's lives. One thing, when you are in it, you will feel unparalleled immersion, peace and happiness. Because of this love, we have peace of mind in our souls and face life with a bit more courage and calmness that we didn’t have before. I am grateful to the university teacher for giving me the opportunity to translate and edit the second edition of "The Sociology of News", and I am also grateful to myself for receiving this wonderful gift from God. This article can be regarded as a gratitude for this kind of happiness, and it is also a restart of the writing journey.
In the movie "Wonderful West and East", principal Mei Yiqi (played by Zu Feng) said to a student (played by Chen Chusheng) who was hesitant to switch to liberal arts: "When people put themselves in a busy world, there is a kind of numbness. You are solid, but you have lost your reality. Your youth is only these days. What is reality? What you see, what you hear, what you do, and who you are with, there is a sense of lack of regret that overflows from the depths of your heart. The core difference between "real happiness" and "busy steadiness" is whether what we are doing comes from true love or smoothness. A choice made based on public opinion and following the wheel of life?
At the beginning of this year, I participated in the translation of a work by a very respected teacher in the university. I initially thought: "Translation is a good opportunity to learn English. Maybe I can eventually be able to study in English." "But I never expected that during the half month of translation, I would feel overflowing with happiness that went beyond utilitarianism.
After closing the study door, I had a lamp, a glass of water, a plate of fruit, and played light music when I was tired. For 20 consecutive days, I was rooted in translation almost from morning to night before going to bed. . First read the original English work on paper, and then translate and revise it on the computer. It seems repetitive and boring, but I don't feel bored at all. It seems that there is a layer of airflow surrounding me, which separates me from the hustle and bustle, noisy, and impetuousness. Within the airflow is quiet peace and true happiness. Understanding English, clarifying the meaning of sentences, pondering over and over again when translating, striving for popularity and academicity in Chinese expressions, understanding foreign cultures to connect the unique meanings of the English context... This is really fascinating, and I deeply understand it. I am intoxicated in this process of deliberation and expression. I don’t care if I have extra time to go shopping and date, or what material rewards I will get from what I do. Because, I love and enjoy the process of translation from the bottom of my heart.
Just like a writer who is obsessed with the tranquility of writing, or a photographer who loves to take pictures, there is always one thing in everyone's life that makes them feel deep happiness and strength every time they enter. This feeling is like coming to a big meadow. We can roll and sing on the continuous green grass to our heart's content. We don't feel the time ticking away, and we don't feel the fierceness of chasing each other under the pressure of competition around us.
When we find something that can inspire deep inner joy, we will feel a kind of peace and joy immersed in the process, and because we have a stable place for our souls, we can face the challenges of life. A little more courage and calmness when dealing with trivial and tortuous situations.
Haruki Murakami introduced in the book "My Profession is a Novelist" that an important characteristic of himself as a novelist is "love". A man who has written for thirty-five years, thirteen novels, and translated into more than fifty languages. The requirement that Murakami sets for himself every day is to write for 4-5 hours and complete 4000-5000 words, which is about 10 pages of manuscript paper. In the eyes of others, such self-disciplined "thorough personal manual labor" may be boring, old-fashioned, and energy-consuming. If you don't truly enjoy the joy of writing, how can you persevere and persevere stubbornly for decades?
Murakami said that he naturally likes to hammer out words. In his opinion, "reading the same article over and over again, savoring the charm, changing the word order, and changing the subtle expressions", this kind of writing work is a great pleasure. He feels that the joy he felt while writing his first novel "Hear the Wind Sing" has not changed to this day. Murakami once said, "There seem to be many 'gaps' in the whole world. As long as you are lucky and find a 'gap' that suits you, you can survive." Writing is probably the "gap" that suits him. .
From the things we like, we will get a deep sense of pleasure - we will feel the peace and happiness infiltrated in our hearts, and gain a real sense of power in life. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, the founder of positive psychology, proposed the concept of "flow", which refers to the state of concentration and selflessness when we are doing something - a state of integration of goals and emotions. , we don’t feel the existence of time and space, and we are full of energy and sincerely satisfied when things are completed. When we engage in something challenging that we love, we often experience a deeply pleasurable flow.
In today's society, there are many choices over time. Some make us feel deep pleasure, but some only bring us short-term excitement and numbness.
This kind of happiness is different from the short-term excitement in life. Deep pleasure is more long-lasting and beautiful; while short-term excitement is often fleeting and superficial, and after it ends, we will feel a sense of wasted regret. During my previous leisurely holidays, I could almost stay at the same place at home from morning to night with the help of my mobile phone: watching entertainment news, catching up on dramas, checking Weibo and checking Moments... I always made a lot of plans at the beginning of the holiday. I had infinite expectations for my future life, but I couldn't resist the temptation of my mobile phone, and finally failed. From the colorful information, we get sensory stimulation and short-term excitement one after another. However, hidden under the glitz is the unstoppable emptiness and struggle in our hearts.
For us, the things we truly love are the light in our lives. He pulls us out of the void and allows us to shake off the dust of mediocrity and find our true and clear self.
I have a good friend in college. She participated in many clubs and accumulated a lot of internship experience. Fortunately, she was selected by the teacher as the main person in charge of the youth space in the college. However, she has been busy and confused since her sophomore year. Every time I meet her, I see haggard bags under her eyes. During class, she would often take notes intermittently while replying to endless WeChat messages on her phone. While chatting, she complained about her life but didn't know what to do. "I seem to be pushed away by life. I don't even know what I really want?" I later wrote her a card: "Everyone has his or her own unique path. The important thing is to be clear about what one loves and wants, and to be the master of life."
When entering college and society, what we face Things are diverse. We are no longer the middle school students who only need to complete the homework assigned by the teacher, but adults who have to plan their own lives and solve problems independently. When we put ourselves in the middle of busyness, it is easy to forget to listen to our inner voice, and we are pushed away by life in a muddle--things come one after another, or following the voice of most people will not cause any problems. Matters of objection. Indeed, we get a numb sense of security from it, but we forget that we should be the masters of life, living the life we ??want based on our will and interests, instead of being pushed away by the whip of life. Own.
Thoreau has this passage in "Walden": "The place where I live is as lonely as the prairie. In fact, I have my own sun, moon and stars, my own Small world. "Translation, writing, photography, loving, listening to the rain, walking... There are always one or two things in our lives that we really love, which will oscillate deep inner peace, joy, and satisfaction, and make us feel happy. We have our own world.
At that time, we will sincerely raise our lips to life, "I am a happy person now and in the future."
