Understand the basics of photography and light patterns in seconds.

1. What is light type?

Light types refer to the effects of various lights when shooting, and are usually divided into the following five light types.

Key light: main lighting light.

2. Light type: main light

The main light is the main lighting source in indoor portrait shooting. It plays the main modeling task and the main modeling light for faceted characters. It is an important factor that determines the light effect and atmosphere of the picture.

1. Features: Express the direction and nature of the light source, produce shadows and contrasts of light and dark, and shape the image of the subject, also known as "shaping light"

2. Function: Once the main light is determined, the basic lighting and tone of the picture are determined. It should be noted that there can only be one main light for a subject.

3. Light type: Pave light

Also known as auxiliary light/fill light, fill light is the type of light on other surfaces of the subject that cannot be illuminated by the fill light. To make up for the lack of illumination, it plays an auxiliary role and must be used in conjunction with the main light.

Features: Lighting improves the brightness of dark parts of the subject, adds a three-dimensional feel, and expresses texture.

Function:

1. Fill light determines the level and detail of the dark part of the subject.

2. The fill light controls the light ratio of the subject.

4. Light type: background light

The lighting light that illuminates the background alone. Background light plays a very important role in the picture. Different backgrounds can be printed according to different themes. It also plays the role of setting off the atmosphere and highlighting the subject.

Function:

1. The background light can make the picture richer, enhance the tone level of the picture, and can effectively highlight the subject.

2. The background light directly determines the atmosphere of the picture. Photographers often have already conceived how to deal with the background light before shooting.

5. Light type: Contour light

It refers to a bright light formed along the contour edge of the subject under the illumination of light. Backlight and side backlight are commonly used contour lights in photography.

Function:

1. It is to shape the contour characteristics of the subject and separate it from the background to form a unique artistic effect.

2. Contour light can better present the shape of the subject, enhance the line sense of the subject, and enhance the vividness.

6. Light type: modified light

Modified light is added locally to the subject The main function of intensifying the shape of light is to modify and display the subject more delicately, adding atmosphere to the picture.

Function:

1. Glow, eye light, flare light of craft jewelry, etc. are all modified lights. The irradiation range of the modified light cannot be too strong, otherwise it will put the cart before the horse.

2. Most decorative lights are narrow lights. Eye light and luminescence in portrait photography, as well as the flare of jewelry in product photography, are all typical decorative lights.
