The Influence of Digital Photography on Life

On the Post-production of Digital Technology

Since the appearance of computers and digital cameras, the post-production of digital technology has been a controversial issue.

Just after reading the Principles of Photography Aesthetics edited by Kang Daquan, he also talked about the post-production of digital technology in the book. In the book, he wrote in a negative view. I don't totally agree with him, even to the point where most people disagree.

Although the current digital technology is not very developed, digital cameras can't be compared with traditional film cameras. For example, the pixel problem is too far apart, the price problem is unacceptable to ordinary photographers, and the fun of darkroom is lost. But digital technology is the inevitable trend of social development, and it is also the inevitable trend of photography development. We have to admit that digital technology may be another process after silver plate process, wet plate process, dry plate process and silver salt process. With the development of society, new things will inevitably replace old things, which is the necessity of social development. Digital technology is a new thing, and now some photography schools offer courses for digital photographers.

For the post-modification of digital technology, he called post-production "the art of image design", and it is a bit suspicious to kill the post-production of digital technology with a stick. Personally, I think that digital technology post-production can and must be used, but there must be restrictions and constraints, and there must always be a "degree." But what kind of degree is a degree?

My personal point of view is that as long as it is limited by equipment, what can be supplemented and modified by darkroom technology in the later stage can be completed by digital technology in the later stage.

To give a few simple examples, our common camera is 135 camera, and its frame is 24 mm× 36 mm If we want to get an aspect ratio other than 2: 3, then we won't buy another camera with a suitable ratio. So we will use editing to achieve the desired effect, whether it is film or digital, it is easy to do, and this is also allowed. In one place, because seeing objects has perspective, the large format machine has perspective correction function (including some 135 cameras also have perspective correction function, but the price is relatively expensive. ), we want to correct and are limited by equipment, which is also allowed.

However, some things are absolutely not allowed. For example, you must never add something that is not in line with the actual situation at that time, exaggerating, narrowing or changing the facts, which violates the principle of documentary photography.

Whether to apply digital technology in post-production is the key to master a degree, and rational utilization is our basic principle.
