Comment in one sentence

Father, brother, husband & sons.

We are ... young, brave, husband, wife, son, mother, daughter and soldier.

400 American paratroopers. 4000 Vietnamese soldiers. From home 12 000 miles. 1 people lead them into battle.

This film is a bold attempt by Hollywood to fight the Vietnam War.

-Los Angeles Daily News

Behind the scenes production

The film is adapted from the best-selling book "We Were Soldiers ... and Young" by former US President Lieutenant General Harold G Moore and war correspondent Joseph L. galloway. Both of them experienced the tragic and unusual battle in the book. Moore and galloway wrote in the preface: "Some of our compatriots hated that war, but those who hated the Vietnam War could not tell the difference between war and soldiers. We know what Vietnam is like. Everything we see, do, talk about and smell is imperceptible in America. Hollywood has been making a mistake, stabbing a brother to death in that war with a political sword. As soon as the war is over, the dead can no longer stand up, and those who miraculously survive can never heal their pain. They are completely different from the young people who first went to war. We use this story to pay tribute to the North Vietnamese soldiers who died under our guns in that battle. They are brave and respectable enemies. We pray that they can return to their homes and be buried in glory. "

Randall wallace found this book in the bookstore 1993 at the airport, and it was the title that attracted him. Wallace finished reading the book on the plane, and he was so excited that he decided to try to make a movie. He immediately contacted his agent and asked for someone who had the right to shoot. He hopes to adapt it into a play. It soon became clear that although no one won the right to shoot this best-selling book, the author was not interested in this film.

However, Wallace did not intend to give up. He went directly to the two authors and left them a letter, which said, "Look, everything I say will make me sound more like a lobbyist in Hollywood, so I'm not going to waste my breath. You don't know me, and you haven't heard of me and my works. However, I would like to send you two scripts I wrote. Please have a look. If you like them, just call me and we'll talk about this movie. " The classic Braveheart is included in two plays that Wallace gave to Moore and galloway. The two authors quickly called Wallace and agreed to hold talks.

Wallace finally won the trust of the two authors with his honest character. Galloway recalled: "We all thought that maybe this book will not be adapted into a movie until we die. So when Wallace found me, I used a question to decide whether it was necessary to continue talking. I asked him if he believed in heroes, and his answer was yes, and he told me that I had just finished watching Braveheart. I read the script and thought he was the only candidate. "

In fact, objectively speaking, Galloway, Moore and Wallace all have similarities, and that is the other. Garowe finally decided to bid farewell to his career as a war correspondent; Moore refused to be airlifted to safety many times in the battle; Wallace graduated from a seminary, but he has a black belt in karate.

Wallace bought the right to shoot with his own money, but there was no production company behind him and no signed actors. Later, this film became the first film produced by Wallace's own production company.

be in the background

Nicole Thomas is also a military technical consultant and an extra in this film. He participated in military operations in Mogadishu from 65438 to 0993.

The film was originally completed 150 hours, and the editing department watched it for 6 days and 6 nights.

The French trumpeter in the credits is played by randall wallace's son.

The ending song "Lord's Mansion" became an unofficial military music, which was played at Reagan's funeral.

The picture of the A-6 intruder attack plane in the film was originally shot to defend against intruders 199 1 years ago. The A-6 intruder has retired, so it is impossible to shoot this fighter plane.

Survivors of the first cavalry division in the film were lucky enough to watch the film before it was released. Most of them quit within 30 minutes after the movie started, because the movie was quite real and they didn't want to relive the nightmare.

A (movie) fiasco

When Moore said good night to the children, the children in the upper bunk wore baseball helmets of the current style.

When Moore was almost stabbed, the enemy soldier was shot in the forehead, but his head was not cut off in the later picture.
