For photography enthusiasts, about P mode and aperture priority (shutter priority)

P mode now adds a feature called "program drift" (or flexible program), which allows users to choose different aperture and shutter combinations within a small range.

Generally speaking, P mode will give priority to using the best shutter and aperture combination. So what is best? Generally speaking, the aperture and shutter value of P mode are considered for the best and most reliable image quality performance.

For example, for telephoto lenses, generally speaking, when the light is bright, if you turn on P mode, in many cases the aperture value will be automatically set around f6 to f8. This is because the camera is also relatively smart and knows that the image sharpness of a general lens is best when it is around f8.

For another example, in a slightly dark place, when you turn the zoom ring of the lens, you will find that the aperture and shutter value of the P file will also change accordingly (of course, this change has a certain condition range). When you adjust the focus to 60

, the P mode will "try to" set the shutter to 1/60. When you adjust the focus to 80, the P mode program will "try to" set the shutter to 1/60. 1/80, 1/60 and 1/80 are the safety shutters at this focal length. If the shutter is lower than this, the camera may vibrate and the picture will be blurred. Judging from this example, the P file seems to be very smart and knows to prioritize picture quality.

What’s more, many of the P-mode cameras now have integrated program drift functions. Even in P mode, the aperture and shutter can be adjusted within a certain range. So you can think of P mode as an automatic mode that prioritizes image quality and takes into account both aperture and shutter speed.

So when is it appropriate to use P file? Of course this question varies from person to person. But in my opinion, the current P, A and S gears are just like the AF-A, AF-S and AF-C gears in autofocus. P mode plays a similar role to AF-A mode. It is a gear that prioritizes shooting quality and can switch shutter and aperture priority within a certain range.

We know that many times it is important to capture a photo, and there is not much time for you to consider shutter and aperture. At this time, P mode is very valuable. So don’t say that P file is useless. As the Buddhists say, at the elementary stage, mountains are still mountains and water is water; at the intermediate stage, mountains are not mountains and water is not water; at the advanced stage, mountains are still mountains and water is still water. In the same way, people who are new to playing SLR (single electronic)

because they don’t know how to use anything, so they rely heavily on P mode; but after playing to a certain level and having a theoretical foundation, they always want to sharpen their skills. It seems that if you shoot in P mode, you will be embarrassed and lose face, so you will avoid P mode.

In fact, when you become familiar with it, you will go back and rediscover the goodness of P mode, because human brain power is limited, and when you pay attention to one thing, you will ignore another.

Finally, I would like to repeat that sentence, existence is justified. Each gear has its advantages. When you use every gear well, you are not far from the master.
