Five skills of shooting waterfalls in landscape photography
(A) seize the right time to shoot
Rain is a good time to shoot waterfalls.
The best time to shoot the waterfall is after the rain. At this time, there is enough water, which can not only make the moss look greener, but also mix water and soil to add a golden color to the waterfall.
(2) Arrive at the scenic spot early.
Proper composition can avoid crowding.
Unless your target waterfall is difficult to reach, it is usually crowded with people. Try to get to the scenic spot as early as possible, so that you can shoot alone in the waterfall. If there is a crowd, try to find a gap to enlarge the details of the waterfall shooting.
(3) Don't forget the tripod.
This photo took six seconds to shutter.
If the water is fast, the shutter of 1 s can also make the water slippery.
If you want to make the water flow as dreamy as fog, you need to use a tripod to capture the dynamics of the water while keeping the stones clear. Adjust the shutter speed according to the speed of water. The slower the shutter, the smoother the water flow. The first photo below uses a shutter of 6 seconds, and the second photo uses a shutter of 1 second. Remember, if there is enough light, you can use the ND filter to ensure the correct exposure under the slow shutter.
(D) the use of characters to increase interest
Adding people to photos can make them more attractive and story-telling. When I took this photo, I had taken a lot of pictures of no one in the waterfall, but later I decided to wait until some people stood on the bridge. For me, a photo with people is often more attractive than just the scenery, so don't be afraid of other people in the photo, but pay attention to the shutter speed, or the people will burn out!
Don't be afraid to add the right amount of people to the photos.
(5) add foreground to the photo.
Another technique to make photos more attractive is to add foreground to waterfalls. Look at the photos below? Without that stone, the photo would be ordinary and tasteless! After adding this stone, because the water flows, it can create a beautiful dynamic effect. So remember not to be impatient when shooting next time, and look around first to see if there are any suitable prospects!
Plus the foreground makes the photo more interesting.
(6) Be careful about the camera and personal safety.
Be careful of yourself and your camera when shooting waterfalls.
Usually places with waterfalls are slippery, so you must be more careful when walking on stones. It is also suggested to cover the camera with a plastic bag to avoid getting wet when shooting, or you can prepare a rag to remove water droplets from the lens. The sturdy tripod and tripod head can ensure that your camera will not fall into the water when shooting.
