A Review of Zhao Wei Edition of Mulan
Usually watching bad movies is used to cynicism. It is a strange and uncomfortable thing to express my subjective feelings in order to taste the risk of being despised. But liking means accepting everything about this movie, including literary lines, too erotic screenwriters, directors in short supply, and actors to turn the tide. It's no good to shout verbally, so I specially wrote this article in a clear-cut manner to support the actors of Mulan. ...
In fact, the advantages of this film are almost universally recognized, and the disadvantages are also unobstructed. The actor's performance is excellent, and it is impossible to cover up all the ugliness in one performance. The loopholes in the plot are ridiculous and can't cover up the actor's brilliance. The two are distinct, each depending on the mountain. Therefore, we can clearly see that compared with the high-level performance of Zhao Wei and Chen Kun, Ma Chucheng's control is wavering and shrinking.
First of all, we can get a glimpse of the keynote of the whole movie from the theme song.
In the end, the theme song of Mulan chose Stephanie's desolate love of Mulan, and the original theme song, The Star of Mulan with a little taste of a little daughter, became an episode. It can be seen that Ma Chucheng is determined to take the epic route. My heart sank when I learned that the photographer was the director's resume. Sure enough, he didn't disappoint me. Mulan, who had high hopes, failed to become an epic and a short-lived and affectionate folk song.
But it is undeniable that many people will still feel the surge of blood at some point when watching movies. It's not because the Hong Kong director has a poor eye and grandstanding, but because of the actor's gloomy performance.
Second, the plot is free, the director is free, and the actors bring the audience into the play with solid acting skills.
When I first saw Mulan, I was shocked. This is the most vivid Mulan and Wen Tai. Although I have seen many works by Zhao Wei and Chen Kun before, I still didn't expect them to play to this extent. Mulan or Wen Tai, their characters are somewhat thin and mythical, but the performances of the two young actors have created flesh-and-blood heroes in layers, and the roles created twice are convincing. As an audience, I can almost read their inner changes synchronously from their eyes and even the slightest facial nerve twitch. Therefore, despite being repeatedly shocked by the lines and bridges of the film, it was brought back to the play again and again by the bloody and energetic performances of the actors. I even wonder, if Mulan is remake in the future, it is not difficult to surpass this film, but can the next director find such a suitable actor again?
Besides, the lines are full of sense of disobedience, so those awkward lines in the literary cavity can finally turn into blood and tears. Zhao Kun's voice was unusual, hoarse as if it had exploded directly from his chest, and it was deafening and suffocating. It is right not to dub. Such a highly realistic emotional polymerization reaction is only at the scene in the desert, rather than entering the recording studio afterwards.
Writing here, I suddenly remembered Jiang Wen's previous comments on Zhao Wei: "We call her Sister Wei, you know? All the actors here call her Sister Wei. She is really a passionate person. She can put things together to form a group. And she has a lot of brains, which I never expected before I met her. I think she is really a smart person, but not so smooth. Including some plays I occasionally watch her play, I think the script is actually very poor, but she can play without embarrassment, which I don't have. I'm going to meet a bad script, either I refuse to play it or I'll correct it for others. I wouldn't say that I can play so badly that I can't be annoying. I think this is one of her strengths. ..... (hereinafter referred to as) "
This time in Mulan, it also illustrates this point. The highlight of this drama lies in how the actors try to make such a problematic story credible, and how Zhao Wei and Chen Kun break through through acting in this running commercial film.
Third, Zhao Wei and his gang had a chemical reaction with Rou of Chen Kun this time.
Apart from Mulan Wen Tai, these two characters are actually very interesting. Mulan played by Zhao Wei is a man among women, and Wen Tai played by Chen Kun is a woman among men. Of course, this is by no means to say that Chen Kun is not manly enough, but he has a delicate, melancholy and gentle side besides the domineering and perseverance of men, so he is different from other rough men in the military camp. Only Wen Tai understood Mulan's fragile and lonely daughter's mentality, cared for her and became her spiritual pillar and support.
Just kidding, what if the tough guy Hu Jun and the tender model Chen Kun were allowed to swap roles?
Chen Kun's acting as an independent person is still competent. He will add a cold and vicious flavor, which will contrast with the weak appearance and have a dramatic conflict, thus avoiding Hu Jun's independent cosmetic surgery.
However, if Hu carries out military exercises, the plot will change greatly. A pure man hangs out with Mulan all day, and everything seems abrupt and stiff. Although Mulan rules tens of thousands of soldiers and even dominates the battlefield symbolized by men, she is still unfamiliar with men and even resists them, otherwise she will not have nightmares every night. Wen Tai is her bridge to the world of men. She is delicate and feminine.
I thought Mulan could be more feminist and not need so much emotional drama. It depends on which romantic film it is. If the director is stubborn, he will be made into a light comedy. What is an epic? Now it's not embarrassing to have one foot inside and one foot outside.
Pull it back, even if it is an emotional drama, it should have some characteristics. The most striking thing about Mulan disguised as a man is her female identity and how to be careful not to be exposed in a purely male military camp. There are bound to be many problems. At this time, Wen Tai will come out to cover, or when Mulan's gender consciousness is disordered, Wen Tai will use some gentleness to set things right. That's not enough. Emotion is auxiliary, and the key point is to awaken Mulan's female consciousness.
Fourth, talk about the emotional drama in the film.
Even if the director insists on describing the feelings between two people positively, then I think the most precious thing about feelings on the battlefield is that you know you can't do it. It's not about the flowers and the moon. Emotion should be a forbidden area. It is something more terrible than softness and needs to be guarded against. So the key is whether the two can hold each other tightly, which is also in line with the oriental emotional expression that has always been forbearing and restrained. Besides, Zhao Wei and Chen Kun are so good at acting, they should express the changes that should happen and write every word on their faces. So what the director needs is to set some plots and describe some details. As for Mulan's handshake, caress and life and death vows, Mrs. Du is too superficial and should be deleted drastically. This is not Qiong Yao's play. Why bother? Restrain.
There are two scenes that make people laugh and cry. One is that Wen Tai cut her wrists and fed Mulan blood. The audience didn't react when she first saw it. Incredible as it was, she was finally moved. The next morning, the director did the same thing. Shit, this is for fun, isn't it? Away from the troubles of silence, it is really early to go out and late to return.
The second scene is Mulan Wen Tai watching the stars on the battlefield. There is really no need to be romantic for a hundred times on the battlefield in ..................................................................................................................................................................... What else "when people die, they will become stars in the sky"? If I remember correctly, there should be the same lines in the lion king. . . Then, just as I was crossing, Chen Kun's face appeared strangely in the starry sky. Shit, look at the way Mulan stares at the night sky. Who doesn't know who she is missing? Is it necessary to be so straightforward?
The most frustrating thing is that the director borrowed Xiao Hu's mouth and said simply, "You are both so lonely." Shit! Is that what you said? Is that what you said? Loneliness is right, and it is a key emotion that both people know they can't do. But even if you use a lonely figure to express it, you should grit your teeth and not say it. Some things that rely on feelings are not perfect, but completely destroyed. The audience laughed as soon as the director spoke.
Of course, grandstanding is also the director's housekeeping skill. There are also some interesting scenes in this film, such as cleaning the bloody military cards, and Wen Tai's back to Mulan, who is cruel, but two lines of tears can't stop.
My favorite scene is Wen Tai painting Mulan sword. "I have been observing you these days, and you have done a good job." This is a typical sentence of hitting candied dates with a stick. What a sad sentence. Before Mulan could look back on the past and feel sad, Wen Tai had quickly pulled out the arrow inserted in her chest. Mulan screamed, and the grief and heartbreak accumulated in her chest for so many days burst out with the gushing blood, splashing her lover's face. When I think of that sentence, only physical pain can alleviate mental pain. That's true.
Fifth, the entanglement between the director and the screenwriter.
I don't want to talk about other plot loopholes. But only one can't figure it out. Chen Kun said that Wen Tai was the man behind Mulan. Then the man behind a great woman should be willing to be lonely. Then, obviously, Mulan's female identity is the biggest scene in the whole film. How did Wen Tai suddenly become undercover at a critical time, and the Seven Princes rushed out to steal the play?
In fact, this film is full of undercover. Mulan disguised herself as a man and mixed with men, while Wen Tai hid the identity of a prince and mixed with civilians. Wen Tai also pretended to be an ordinary soldier, playing dead. Mulan even sneaked into the enemy to rescue her sweetheart ... So many dizzying identity crises, the director actually closed his eyes and let them all go, and those lurking undercover agents were naturally successful. The writer is bigger than the sky. The writer is bigger than the sky.
6. Vitas, which appeared in a fantastic way, unfortunately became Toy Boy.
Let's talk about Vitas's debut. I first heard that he was in college. I thought it was a god from the sky, so excited with my dormitory sisters. In recent years, I finally watched him fall from the throne of God, getting fat, lip-synching, and no longer mysterious ... This time, I ran out and made a bottle of soy sauce.
Vitas felt good at first, with long white hair fluttering and full of religious sacredness. I think I thought he played a symbolic role.
What does it symbolize? Fate, he should be like the fate above the sky, facing all the people in the world, even if his life is destroyed and his bones are heavy, he will stay out of it, but sing the spiritual song of redemption, from the distant sky, to soothe people's suffering in the war. But Vitas plays a god and doesn't take part in saving the world. His position is still high, allowing human tragedies to happen.
In short, the appearance of Vitas, in my imagination, should provide a third-party perspective for this film, so that the audience can also be separated from the plot and get a different experience from the perspective of God outside the war.
But the God in my mind actually became Toy Boy who served Khan and his son, and he was also involved in a revenge war. When he embroidered a picture and spit out that eloquent line, I felt that life was a dream for a hundred years. ...
Seven, the picture is over, and the nightmare literary lines continue.
Finally, the man must be duty-bound to propose elopement, and the woman must explicitly refuse. Wen Tai and Mulan finally gave each other a hug, which made Qian Fan unbearable. I'm really scared, afraid that they will take the opportunity to kiss after hugging, which will ruin it, completely ruin it and turn it into "deep rain". Fortunately, the director was merciful, and a shot was taken away, but at last Mulan began to read poetry. Many times I think silence is the best language that can cover everything. Unfortunately, many directors feel that it is not enough and must die. It's a pity that the audience is too smart and hard these days, and they can only laugh at it.
Having said that, I still recommend this four-star film.
Bad movies and good movies hold up half the sky.
However, such a film has advantages and disadvantages, and there is no coordination between the two, which will bring you a brand-new viewing experience.
You will feel that watching the whole person is torn apart.
On the one hand, she was deeply shocked by Mulan Wen Tai; on the other hand, she was crazy by the plot.
I even believe that if you turn off all the volume and just watch the performance, you will find a movie with a completely different temperament.
Of course, you have to go to the cinema to experience this magical effect properly. The widescreen will faithfully reflect all the details of the performance. If you are going to download it and watch it on the small computer or TV screen at home, I advise you not to watch it. You can find the thunder spot as you wish, but you will never see the true essence of the film. This is a waste of time and saliva.
