My father and mother's documentary film review

Review of My Mom and Dad;

The documentary "My Father and My Mother" tells the story of photographer Jiao Bo's life journey of photographing his parents for more than 30 years, reflecting the end of an era, the changes in the countryside and the changes in the city. The film not only shows the touching story of Jiao Bo's life with his parents, but also reflects the simplicity and the most authentic natural atmosphere of rural people in the times, which makes people feel deeply after watching it.

The form of documentary is quite distinctive. It was shot around my parents in Jiao Bo's collection. This kind of narration interspersed in the film makes the whole film more story-telling and gives the audience a cordial sense of reality. When you stare at black-and-white works, the moment of deep freeze-frame is often not a kind of thinking and memory. This strong sense of atmosphere is exactly what this film can impress the audience most.

Behind the scenes production

1974, photographer Jiao Bo began to record his parents' daily life with a camera. He took 12795 photos and recorded more than 600 hours of material. In 2003, Zhejiang Satellite TV invited Han Lei, the director, to organize and produce the documentary My Mom and Dad according to the photos and video materials provided by Jiao Bo.

Jiao Bo's original intention was to leave some commemorative photos for his parents. For these video materials, Jiao Bo admits that there are elements of "creation" or "directing". The equipment used in this video is Sony PD- 100 camera.
