Main areas of wind energy resources in China.

China's wind energy resources are widely distributed, among which relatively rich areas are mainly concentrated in the southeast coast and nearby islands and the north (northeast, north and northwest), and there are also some wind energy enrichment points in the inland. In addition, offshore wind energy resources are also very rich.

(1) Coastal and island areas are rich in wind energy resources: Coastal and island areas include coastal areas of Shandong, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan provinces (cities), with a width of nearly 10 km. The annual wind power density is above 200 W/m2, and the wind power density line is parallel to the coastline.

(2) Wind energy enrichment zone in the northern region: The wind energy enrichment zone in the northern region includes the three northeastern provinces, Hebei, Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Ningxia and Xinjiang with a width of nearly 200 kilometers. The wind power density is above 200-300 watts/square meter, and some of them can reach above 500 watts/square meter, such as Alashankou, Dabancheng, Huitengxile, Huitengliangshan in Xilinhot and Chengde paddock.

(c) Inland areas with abundant wind energy: The wind energy density is generally below 100 W/m2, but some areas are also rich in wind energy resources due to the influence of lakes and special topography.

(d) Offshore wind energy-rich area: The east coast is vast with a water depth of 5-20m, but limited by marine functional zoning such as routes, ports and aquaculture, the offshore wind energy resources that can be developed technically are far less than those on land. However, in Jiangsu, Fujian, Shandong, Guangdong and other places, offshore wind power resources are abundant and close to power load centers, so offshore wind power can become an important clean energy source for future development in these areas.

The geographical distribution of wind energy resources in China does not match the existing power load. Coastal areas have a large power load, but the land area rich in wind energy resources is small; The northern region is rich in wind energy resources, but the power load is small, which brings difficulties to the development of wind power economy. Because most of the wind energy-rich areas are far away from the power load center and the power grid construction is weak, large-scale development needs the support of power grid extension.
