Just after New Year's Day on 20 15, the creative team of burning images entered a tense preparatory stage. The door of the warehouse was opened, and no one knew how many secrets were hidden in those long-untouched film boxes. After many days of professional processing by technicians, digital film has become the basic material available in batches. In the small screening room, everything on the screen stunned the whole team:
In the "December 28th Incident", Zhabei became a scorched earth, and Cai Tingkai was deploying the 19th Route Army. On the second day of the Lugouqiao Incident in Wanping ancient city, people spontaneously expressed their condolences to the soldiers guarding the city. Pingxingguan won a great victory, and Lin Biao and Nie Rongzhen commanded operations on the battlefield; Known as the Battle of Shanghai in the Meat Mill, Feng Yuxiang used charming speeches to boost morale. On the Suzhou River, the four-line warehouse is still alone in the position, and the famous eight hundred heroes actually has less than 400 people; On the battlefield of Taierzhuang, there are actually children digging trenches; In the air battle in Wuhan, the fighter plane was photographed rolling at the enemy and eventually shooting down the enemy plane. ...
There are also some special shots about the specific time: 1937 12. When the China army was forced to leave Nanjing, the camera took the last shot of looking back at Nanjing, which was a vague picture, like a tearful child touching his mother's face;
1945 10 10/0, the hall of supreme harmony square in the Forbidden City in Beiping was crowded with 200,000 citizens, who witnessed the surrender signed by the invaders. At that time, the population of the whole city was only 2 million ...
It was beautiful at that time, as if these images were waiting for us. The sources are different, but they were all taken during the Anti-Japanese War. Some came from private companies, some from foreign journalists, and a few films were seized from the Japanese army and the puppet government. Most of them came from the battlefield film team sent by the Film Bureau of the National Government at that time. Numerous war scenes flashed before our eyes, and many seats were clearly within range. How did the camera record them? Obviously, the war reporters at that time risked their lives to leave these pictures for us. When the burning images were shown, a reporter once asked, "What special techniques were used to shoot these films?" I replied to him like this: "This film probably used the most complicated technology, that is, the photographer took a clear picture of the battlefield and was still alive." By consulting the information, we know that many people who took these images did die on the battlefield. "Let future people see"-this matter is more important than their lives. We should faithfully present these pictures so that more people in China can see them and the audience can be witnesses of history.
Time is tight, and it will take several months to read all the materials. The whole team has been working overtime, with revolution, restoration, writing, textual research, editing and post-production at the same time; A large number of tragic images also bring discomfort to young people's psychology. Some people even had nightmares, but there was not enough time for psychological adjustment in order to release the film on the 70th anniversary of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression's victory. Everyone feels the heaviness of this video legacy, and everyone is trying to overcome it and encourage each other. "Victory belongs to us" is the usual slogan at the end of the copywriting team's email. Three people in the film repair team fell ill; The second half of the director group almost ate and lived in the computer room.
In the past, many documentaries may have used early images, but the use of materials may be misplaced. When burning an image, the matching degree between the image and the copy is very high. Except for a few scenes, most of the images are from corresponding historical scenes. We try to avoid borrowing materials. Events, figures, military numbers and even military uniforms, weapons and badges appearing in the images have been verified. Most of the original materials are silent films. Many of them don't even have titles, so it's hard to have a clear idea just by looking at the pictures. The film crew bought a lot of anti-Japanese war documents and found the same historical materials, so the data are often inconsistent and the details are different. To this end, we specially invited experts from the Academy of Military Sciences, China World War II History Research Association, China Academy of Social Sciences Institute of Modern History and other authoritative institutions to give professional guidance. Experts with the history of the Anti-Japanese War found that taking the physical image of this film as the original historical materials also corrected some mistakes and omissions in previous historical materials.
In the choice of historical materials, try to choose materials that the audience has never seen before, such as Soviet aid to China, the signing of the Sino-British New Testament and the Sino-American New Testament, slogans posted by students studying in Japan, the surrender ceremony of the North China theater held in the Forbidden City, and the trial of Kawashima Yoshiko. For the historical facts familiar to the audience, try to show the details that everyone has not seen.
On September 18, The Burning Image was officially released in China, and we adopted the lowest fare. Most viewers who have seen it use "shock", "moving" and "unforgettable" to describe their feelings. Although the box office of domestic documentaries has been unsatisfactory, there are also enthusiastic fans who have traveled all over the city to watch movies, and there are also public welfare people who have seen many performances and decided to invite school children to watch them.
Sun Xianghui, director of China Film Archive and producer of this film, said: "We only do public welfare. We hope that more audiences can see this film and plant the seeds of maintaining peace. When we chose to put the film in the cinema, everyone was worried about the box office. We won't make many comparisons. On the one hand, documentaries and commercial films are not comparable. On the other hand, our greatest expectation is to let everyone see the recorded images 70 years ago and our great national spirit in the cinema. "
Director Li Tao said: "This film may be a little imperfect, but please believe that our creative attitude is sincere;" This film pays tribute to the ancestors who fought bloody battles during the Anti-Japanese War and also to the filmmakers who recorded these images. Producer Xue Ning also prepared a special gift for film researchers, military history lovers and fans. She organized the Information Group to compile a book of the same name, Burning Images, which will be published soon. The book not only contains the complete film version, but also introduces some rare background materials in the film in detail.
As an audience member said, "We all studied history and thought we understood it, but it was quite different from what we saw with our own eyes." This film has no color, no high technology, no stars, only the truth. As long as you sit down in the cinema, you will be moved by the truth. Also, there are always some scenes that you will never forget.
