Q: How to shoot the sun? thank you
In order to attract the attention of the audience, landscape photography must have impact. There is a way to achieve this goal: incorporate the sun into your photos. At latitudes of 40 degrees and above (such as northern North America), the sun is an indispensable part of the winter scenery because of its low inclination in the winter sky. At low latitudes, you can also take wonderful photos, but the best shooting time is in the early morning and evening, for the simple reason that the sun is closer to the horizon at that time.
SLR camera with full manual exposure control and preview of depth of field is very suitable for shooting the sun. In fact, the main purpose of the preview function of depth of field when shooting the sun has nothing to do with depth of field, but to see whether there are spots and ghosts through the aperture. Avoid using a camera with a focal plane shutter, because sunlight will burn holes in the shutter curtains.
The choice of lens depends not only on the scene itself, but also on the relative position of the main elements in the composition with the sun. Wide-angle lens is widely used, which can reduce the size of sunlight and most subjects. When the sun is close to the horizon, a 50mm lens and a medium focal length lens are good choices. When the sun gradually becomes a big red ball or just appears on the horizon, the telephoto lens comes in handy.
From a practical point of view, the most important problem in shooting the sun is how to control ghosting-single or multiple overlapping images appear in the photo. In fact, some people like the effect of a row of ghosts, but you will soon find that this is just a deceptive trick. These ghosts will destroy the simplicity and integrity of the whole composition.
In modern lens design, multi-layer coating can effectively reduce spots and ghosts. Some lenses are better than others in controlling facula and ghost, so it is very important to choose lenses carefully. Under extreme conditions such as shooting the sun, the fixed-focus lens is better than the zoom lens in controlling ghosting. However, some zoom lenses now control ghosting surprisingly well. Many shots are prone to ghosting. When using these lenses, you can use branches, rocks or ice blocks to block some sunlight and effectively eliminate ghosts.
How to shoot the sun better!
Use an aperture of f/ 16. Set the camera to shift gears manually and follow the "Clear Weather Rule f/ 16": when the aperture is f/ 16, set the shutter speed to twice the film sensitivity value. (If the film with ISO64 sensitivity is used, the shutter speed should be1125 seconds).
Look for midtones. Read an exposure reading in a middle tone to determine the exposure, such as a gray rock in a side photo, but sunlight cannot be included in the photometry. It is best to use the point side light function of SLR camera, but if you are more careful, you can also use the central focus side light.
Pay more attention when printing photos. Determining the exposure of enlarged photos is as important as determining the exposure of reversal films, but the default settings of small-sized magnifying devices often make the details of silhouette areas appear and make the colors of the sky and the sun lighter. In order to avoid this situation, you can give the print shop a photo with the desired effect.
