What is the composition method of Jiugongge?

The golden section composition method is usually called nine squares, which divides a painting into nine equal parts with two horizontal lines and two vertical lines.

Jiugongge composition is the most common and basic composition method. If the picture is regarded as a bounded area, the left, right, upper and lower sides are divided into three equal parts, and then these corresponding points are connected by straight lines to form a TIC-tac-toe in the picture, and the picture area is divided into nine equal squares, which is what the ancient Chinese called "nine squares". The four intersections of TIC-tac-toe are the interest centers. Of course, there are other composition methods, such as balanced composition, symmetrical composition, cross composition, diagonal composition and so on. But Jiugongge is the most basic composition method with the longest origin.

Simply put, put the subject on four points (or lines); Divide the picture into three parts, don't let the main body in the middle, it will be beautiful. Note that in composition practice, we should constantly pursue novel composition forms according to the needs of expressing content, and we should not copy them mechanically, which is completely limited by them.

Many newcomers don't know much about Jiugongge. In fact, many digital cameras now have a nine-grid composition in their cameras. Enter the camera, open the menu settings, and turn on the grid lines in all modes, so that the grid lines will be displayed on your camera viewfinder or display screen. Some advanced digital cameras also have portrait composition frames for photographers to assist in composition.

Through my years of exploration and practice, I remember that it is necessary to open grid lines in the machine, which has many benefits. First, it is conducive to composition (corresponding to nine squares); Second, when taking photos of lakes, mountains and architectural landscapes. It is helpful to confirm whether one-third of the horizon or buildings and lines are straight by reference on the camera viewfinder and display screen (if the lines are not straight when shooting, the picture will be uncoordinated and the post-processing will be more troublesome).

As the picture shows, the four intersections are the interesting centers.

From the above picture, we can find that the intersection of the four lines of Jiugongge is the most sensitive place for human eyes. These four points are also called "interesting central points" in foreign theories. As long as you master these four points to write a composition, you can achieve better composition results.

The importance of composition

Composition largely determines the realization of your ideas and the success or failure of your work. A good photographic work will be eclipsed if it doesn't produce a good picture. Perhaps an inconspicuous corner will come alive after careful composition by a photographer. Composition is the first step in photography. Although the law of photographic composition is not dead, understanding composition can avoid some primary mistakes. When looking at a good work, you can also understand why the photographer wants to shoot like this, which is also very helpful for your own promotion.

To take good photos, we must first do the following:

1) Find the moving subject.

The first step in composition is to find a moving object to shoot. Instead of simply picking up the camera and pressing the shutter, ask yourself before pressing the shutter, what attracts you? Is it a color? Lines? Light and shadow or modeling? After determining the theme, the next step is how to express it. Then we will get closer to her. Usually the subject must occupy a certain proportion in the picture to attract attention, that is, the subject stands out. If the subject is too small, it can't be a subject. If we use a digital camera, we need to press the macro function key to ensure accurate focusing.

2) Highlight the main body

Highlighting the theme is also the main purpose of photographic composition. Every photographic work has a theme or an interesting center. So how to make this interesting center more attractive? We can emphasize and highlight the subject, abandon something irrelevant to the center of interest, and arrange something to set off the center of interest properly, so that the picture is more attractive and the viewer can know at a glance what this photo wants to show. All this is achieved through composition. Conveying the photographer's thoughts and feelings is also the purpose of photographic composition. We often hear a word called "visual language". Visual language, like the language we speak, is designed to convey information. In photography, the purpose of using visual language is to make people understand what this photo is saying and what kind of thoughts it wants to express. This purpose also depends on composition.

The most common mistake that newcomers make is to put the subject in the middle of the picture. Indeed, the subject in the middle is the easiest to attract people's attention, but a good photo should be able to guide readers' eyes to other places after attracting them. If you put an attractive subject in the middle, it is easy to focus only on that object and make the picture dull. At the same time, try not to leave extra things on the screen, which will appear chaotic, loose in composition and lack of beauty. The composition of photography pays attention to simplification, which is often called "subtraction".

Remember, photography is different from painting, on the contrary. The process of photography is a process of subtraction. The less messy the background, the more unnecessary it is.
