Dynamic range of photography

Dynamic range

"Dynamic range" is used to evaluate the ratio of the details of a single frame captured by the camera from the smallest to the largest. It is usually described by "file", and each additional file means that the dynamic range is expanded to a certain extent. "File" comes from the era of traditional film cameras and is a way to describe luminous flux.

The larger the dynamic range, the more information of highlights and shadows can be recorded and presented, and the more room for stylization in the later color matching process. High-end cameras, especially movie cameras, often have a higher dynamic range, making the picture more dramatic.

At present, high-end cameras can shoot the dynamic range of more than 13, and some movie machines have reached 16- 17, which has exceeded the display capacity of most monitors on the market. The emergence of HDR display solves this problem well, but the price is very expensive.
