How to take retro photos with SLR?

Digital SLR can also be used to shoot super retro photographic black box images. Japanese photographers can use negative camera lens, ink-jet printer translucent paper, SLR camera focusing screen, double-reflex camera viewfinder lens, digital SLR and macro lens to remake, avoiding later retouching and shooting super retro photo style. Now open the drawer and see if there is a faulty film camera at home.

The traditional camera directly images the image on the drawing behind it, and it is an interesting upside-down image. Using DSLR and hand-made camera black box skillfully, the retro photos in the dawn of photography technology are reproduced. To take retro photos in the black box, we must prepare some special materials and tools to achieve the shooting effect.

1, the viewfinder of a binocular camera is actually a great imaging material.

2. Remove the viewfinder lens, close it with black cardboard, and then install the filter adapter ring to use.

3, the unused SLR focusing screen, the lens of the faulty camera, you can try it.

4. When taking pictures on the camera box, we don't use the photosensitive element of DSLR to directly image, but use the macro lens to "remake" the camera box image. In order to make the black box image remake smoothly, in addition to preparing the 60mm F2.8 macro lens, it must be used together with the "adapter ring" to realize the remake of the nearest shooting distance. As for how to focus the lens in the black box, it is necessary to manually move back and forth through the traditional snake-bellied mechanism to focus.

▲ The belly of the snake can be made by itself, or it can be modified with the commercially available version, and then fixed on the filter adapter ring with double-sided tape.

5. The back of the camera box mechanism as the imaging material is connected to the camera. Right: On the back of the camera mechanism, various lenses can be installed for imaging.

6. Load the Pentax 1 10 lens, and then combine it in the order of lens, camera mechanism, imaging material, writing ring, macro mirror and DSLR, and you can take the real shot.

7. Testing of imaging materials

This paper tests the effects of three different imaging materials. Whether it is the focus screen, viewfinder lens or translucent paper, the image formed by the black box can be successfully intercepted. Because all the above materials have the characteristics of light transmission, they can be photographed directly with a camera. Because the final product is upside down, it is recommended to use post-production software to correct the image. All the examples were taken with Pentax 1 10/8 mm lens.
