Gray cards and exposure meters in photography
That depends on your personal shooting needs.
Bart, digital cameras don't need these things.
A. how to use the accident exposure meter:
1. Set the ISO value of the exposure meter to be the same as that of the camera;
2. Set the exposure meter to real-time illumination mode;
3. Keep the exposure meter as close to the subject as possible;
4. Point the front of the photometric white sphere towards the camera;
5. Press the metering button for metering;
Note: the exposure meter cannot be blocked by shadows.
B. how to use the camera's built-in reflective exposure meter:
1. Select the measurement mode. For general photos, it is recommended to use multi-format metering or centralized metering;
2. Point your body at your subject;
3. Avoid pictures with too bright or too dark background;
4. If the picture brightness distribution is complex, focus photometry can be used;
5. If the backlight of the picture is very strong, you can measure the light on the ground and then use AE-L;
6. Half press the shutter to measure light;
7. If the automatic metering mode is set, please press the shutter button to shoot;
Note: It can be used in conjunction with grey card metering.
C. How to use the key exposure meter:
1. Set the key metering mode;
2. Focus on the most important position of moderate reflection;
3. Focus on the brightest part of the layer, and then focus on the layer.
The darkest part, take its average;
4. If the bright part is more important, the light can be slightly reduced after calculating the average value;
5. If the level of the dark part is very important, you can calculate the average value and increase the light slightly.
General gray card is equipped with exposure meter and camera spot metering function.
In addition to measuring light, the gray card can also be used to adjust the white balance.
Kenko's gray card should be fine.
It should be the problem of white balance, and of course it may also be the problem of ccd hair color tendency.
18 degree gray in photography
Two meanings.
The first layer of photogrammetry takes the reflectivity of 18% as the exposure reference value. (Because the commonly used photometric system of the camera takes the gray scale of 18 as the reference value, when the measured value of a pure black subject or a pure white subject is compared with the gray scale of 18, there will be a great error, resulting in overexposure or underexposure of the actual photometric value! ) refer to the website 1:/index.php? Showtopic=34067 This website has real pictures. You will understand it better if you look at them.
How to measure light? way
First of all, ensure that the light irradiated on the gray board is basically the same as the light irradiated on the subject. Both should have the same strength. For example, when the subject is standing in the shade, don't measure the light of the gray board exposed to the sun. If the subject is in the shade, it is necessary to measure the light of the gray board in the same shade.
Secondly, we may notice that if the photographer's hand is projected on the corner of the gray board. If our subject is exposed to the sun at this time, we must make sure that we are not measuring this shadow.
Thirdly, the gray board we bought in the store is about 8 inches × 10 inch, which is too big to put in the camera bag. Don't be shy, cut it in half or four pieces, and just put a small piece in the camera bag. The size of the gray board is enough as long as it can measure light at close range when shooting.
Fourth, read the gray board data with a hand-held exposure meter. We can also use the camera's built-in exposure meter to read the gray board, and the effect is the same.
Fifth, even if our camera has automatic exposure function, we can use gray board. If our camera can lock the exposure reading, we can do the following:
First, read the gray board data at close range and press the exposure lock.
Then, while locking this exposure in place, aim the camera at the scene you want to shoot and take the next picture. If the light illuminating the scene is the same as the light read from the gray board, then the exposure is correct.
Sixth, we may notice that there are similarities between the gray board reading and the incident light reading. In fact, they should provide exactly the same recommended exposure, and they all measure the light that illuminates the subject. When we measure the incident light, the white plastic cover on the light meter allows 18% of the light to pass through, which is exactly the same as measuring the reflected light on the gray board. The gray board reflects 18% of the light shining on it. If the lighting is the same, then the two readings should be the same.
Also, if you use the hand-held exposure meter "Shiguang 608 with a white ball", there is no need to use 18 gray board, because that is equivalent to 18 gray board!
The second layer is the current digital age (only applicable to digital cameras). It is used to customize the white parallelism of the camera. The specific settings of each camera are different. The settings of the same brand are generally the same. Not much to say here.
The tone value of the photo is consistent with the 18% gray scale standard board, but the color value of the object represented by this gray scale is not fixed, and it may be white, black, gray or other colors. However, if "V (V) area exposure" is carried out according to the results measured by the exposure meter, the tone value V will be obtained in the photo, which is consistent with the standard gray board.
That's because the exposure meter is calibrated according to the gray value of 18% reflectivity of the average surface of the object.
Partition exposure method is an important artistic creation method of Adams, and it is a theory based on a series of complete shooting operation processes, such as accurate testing (straightness and accuracy of exposure meter, aperture and shutter, etc. ), the characteristics of film or CCD, the characteristics of photographic paper and exposure control, modern digital is a complete color management, the characteristics of developer and so on. It is a complete process, and the lack of a link will affect or even fail to achieve the expected results.
So when you are still in the stage of just taking pictures and not doing it, you just need to know the theory.
