Introduction of British Pavilion in Shanghai World Expo

The British Pavilion of the World Expo is a landmark building, which shows the outstanding achievements of Britain in creativity and innovation with unique visual effects, and shows the leading position of Britain in species protection and its important role in developing a sustainable city facing the future. The design of the British Pavilion is an open park without a roof. Outside the "Seed Temple", the core of the exhibition area, there are more than 60,000 tentacles extending in all directions. During the day, tentacles will conduct light like optical fibers, provide internal lighting, and create a modern and shocking space; There are many scenic spots in the exhibition area, such as Greentown, Open City, Seed Temple, Vitality City and Open Park.

Highlights of exhibition hall

The embryonic form of London Olympic Games first appeared in Shanghai.

Visitors to the Shanghai World Expo can witness the embryonic form of the London Olympic Games for the first time through the "Olympic Corner" located in the British Pavilion, and communicate with many famous British sports stars at the "Olympic Corner". A large area of green land has been planned for the London Olympic Games. After the Olympic Games, this 2.5-square-kilometer Olympic Park will be named Olympic Heritage Park for citizens to rest, entertain and exercise. The "Olympic Corner" will be unveiled at the British Pavilion during the Shanghai World Expo, and a map of the Olympic Park will be displayed. The reinforced concrete buildings will be removed and only the green plants will remain.

The shock of 60 thousand seeds

After entering the "Seed Temple", visitors will find that each of the 60,000 acrylic poles contains different kinds and shapes of seeds. They may be pine cones, coffee beans, or seeds you can't name ... These seeds come from the Millennium Seed Bank project of the Royal Botanical Garden and Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Kunming Institute of Botany carefully selected the seeds of more than 890 kinds of plants, including ornamental plants, medicinal plants, food crops, fruits and vegetables, oil crops and so on. Most plants come from China, including rare plants endemic to China, such as Davidia involucrata and Ginkgo biloba.

relevant information

The design of the British Pavilion was confirmed as a "creative pavilion" designed by Heatherwick Studio on September 2, 2007.

The British Pavilion covers an area of 6,000 square meters and its design is very unique. 60,000 plexiglass "tentacles" are distributed on the exterior wall surface of the whole building. These more than 60,000 tentacles that can flutter with the wind are the most eye-catching ideas. All tentacles lead to a seed bank, which is the core exhibition area of the whole British pavilion. There are at least 60,000 live plant seeds in the seed bank. It embodies the creativity and innovative spirit of the British.
