Optical Study of Zu Guoguang

Academician Mu Guoguang has been engaged in the research and teaching of optics and applied optics for a long time. Since 1958, he has been teaching a series of optical courses such as optics, applied optics, optical instrument theory, optical design, optical information processing, holography and modern optical engineering. Optics, which was compiled under the guidance of Professor Shen Shouchun, later became a widely used textbook in colleges and universities all over the country, and won the first prize of the textbook of the State Education Commission. Mother Guoguang cooperated with the instrument room of the First Machinery Department to design and develop the first spectral steel analyzer in China. In 1960s, Zu Guoguang took the lead in the research of interference frequency modulation spectrum (Fourier spectrum) in China.

In the 1970s, in the national color TV battle, Tianjin Group, the leader, successfully completed the task of color TV camera optical system, and developed a new type of correction mirror matching light beam and electron beam. He designed and developed a cone-axis ellipsoid cold light reflector for Tianjin Dongfeng film projector, which improved the utilization rate of light energy by more than 250%. In the late 1970s, Zu Guoguang shifted his research focus from classical optical system imaging to optical information processing and its application. In the basic and applied research of white light optical image processing, he creatively put forward white light image processing operations such as addition, subtraction, deconvolution, differentiation and correlation, as well as technologies such as color recovery of faded film, color file storage, stereoscopic display, Fresnel holographic filtering, optical Fourier transform spectrum and false color of phase image, which expanded and developed the white light optical information processing technology.

From 1980s to 1990s, mother Guoguang and her research group studied the application of white light information processing in color photography, developed a three-color grating encoder, and realized the recording of color image information by using black-and-white film, and successively completed two models of black-and-white film for color photography, optical information processor and optical processor for large-format aerial color photography, in which digital calculation was creatively used to replace complex optical decoding, and a new technology of digital Fourier optical color decoding was developed.
