How to break through the bottleneck of photography from composition

Lead: After cameras and photography are popularized, we can get a glimpse of the focus of photography that the public is most concerned about from the themes of photography-related series. Throughout the major online bookstores and physical storefronts, using the keyword "photography" to search, we can roughly divide the books about photography in the market in Taiwan Province Province into: composition, equipment operation, photography knowledge, flashing skills, model portraits, post-production of images, books on various themes (landscapes, commercial photography, people, etc. ).

But there is more, a good schoolbag, a little hard knowledge and a comprehensive photo book of life skills.

No matter what kind of books, almost all of them will talk about the so-called "composition". Harald Mante's book "Photographic Composition and Color Design" states at the beginning: "Without well-designed photos, the content cannot be conveyed. This book analyzes how the image is formed from four aspects: point, line, surface and color-more accurately, how to design the image.

Harald Mante believes that good composition should highlight rather than weaken the information of photos. Examples of composition have always been a matter of great concern to photographers, and many examples of composition types have been established-eternal but cliche. This article is not to teach you the skills of composition, but to discuss the current cognition of photography consumers on "composition", which is only slightly rough.

The most common composition mode is "trisection", also known as TIC-tac-toe composition and Jiugongge composition. The composition method is to divide the landscape frame into nine squares and place the photographic object at the intersection of the dividing lines.

This composition method comes from the golden ratio composition method, which can effectively increase the vividness of the picture, and will not be a dull and inflexible photo. By moving the subject from the middle, the visual movement of the viewer can be increased, and events outside the background and hidden frame can be presented at the same time.

However, many composition methods are developed on the basis of trichotomy, and many composition methods are produced, including curve composition, focus composition, contrast juxtaposition composition, spiral composition and so on.

But in the final analysis, this composition method of "where should the subject be placed in the landscape frame" is limited to a superficial understanding of composition and only literally interprets the meaning of composition. All composition methods come from the spread of point, line, surface and color, which is the same as traditional painting from the beginning. However, the difference between photography and painting lies in their different aesthetic angles.

What do you think of "composition"? What do we think of photography? What are the good factors of a work? Why does every photo album have to talk about composition? How does composition help us to take good photos? These questions are the core thinking about photography. Without solving these problems, it will be difficult for us to break through the bottleneck of photography creation.
