Advanced skills of taking clear photos

Many people like to take photos, whether taking selfies or others, but they are often dissatisfied with their own photos, especially when traveling. They want to preserve the beautiful scenery they saw, but why aren't the photos so original? Some products, products are always so unattractive. What should I do? The following are the advanced skills I brought to you to take sharp photos. Welcome to reading.

AF button on the back of the machine

It can be said that among the photographers I have asked, almost 90% will not use this function that most cameras have. When I asked them how to focus, the answer was to press the shutter halfway before shooting. The problem with this is that every time you shoot, the camera refocuses. What if your subject is far away and a group of people just pass by you? You can't shoot at this time. You have to wait until you refocus and there are no obstacles.

Almost all cameras have a button called "AF-On" on the back. Through the menu setting, this key can be set as the focus key. In this way, you can focus once when shooting, and then shoot as many as you want. The focus will stop at the same position, and the shutter is just the shutter.

Single point focusing

One truth that photographers should understand is the difference between "letting the camera decide what to do" and "telling the camera what to do". Many people half press the shutter, and then the camera decides how to focus. In most cases, the camera will find the correct focus. Because the subject is usually the most prominent thing in the picture, the camera can easily find obvious contrast and focus. This method is effective in most cases, but if you start to use a fixed-focus lens and pursue a shallow depth of field effect, there is a problem.

If your model is 3.5 meters away, shoot with 200mm f/2.8 lens, and the depth of field is only 38mm! Do you want the camera to decide where 38 mm should be aimed? What if it's on the tip of the nose? The model's eyes are in Jiao Wai.

There should be a button on the camera (in the upper right corner of the picture) to show the camera's focus selection. The default setting is to activate all focus points, and the camera decides which one to use. Press this key and use the joystick (or arrow keys) to manually select and activate the focus. When selected, you will only see which focus works when focusing, not a group of focuses. If you want to focus on the model's eyes now, aim the selected focus at the eyes and press the focus button. Now that the focus is fixed, the only thing you need to worry about is that the camera or model is moving.

Automatic servo focusing

The name is interesting, but the setting is very useful. If you haven't found the servo focusing mode, it is a revolution for your photography level to let the camera go out of the "single shot". Here is an example of servo focusing mode: if you are shooting a wedding, you are standing at one end of the aisle and a couple of new people are coming towards you. Because the light here is not good, you use f/2.8 aperture, and the depth of field is only 15 cm. In single focus mode, every time you press the focus button, the camera will focus once, and then you have to press the shutter. Depth of field 15cm, moving model, the probability of taking clear photos is very small. One way is to hurry up, press the focus button and shutter at the same time as soon as possible, and then try several times. Another method is to focus on a certain position in advance and take a photo when the model walks to that position. There is only one chance. You don't want to do this at the wedding!

Set the camera to servo focus, and everything is different. Since 1980s, servo motors have become the standard configuration of cameras in order to meet the needs of sports photographers shooting moving objects. Using servo motor, the camera can automatically track the model coming towards you and change the focal length at any time. Whether the pattern approaches or goes far, it is the same. In the menu settings, you can even adjust the sensitivity of servo focusing.

Using the above technology

This photo was taken at a party of the Pottery Band. The director told everyone not to worry about the photos, but after the meeting, he found that this was not the case, because every photo was terrible. I think this is a challenge. I sat down and waited patiently for the opportunity. I pressed the shutter when I saw their lead singer making eye contact with my camera.

If you use the ordinary focusing method, you may not have this photo. I don't like gambling If I use the autofocus point, how does the camera know to focus on him instead of other things in the picture? I chose a focus and aimed it at the face of the lead singer. Then I focus with the focus button on the back of the machine and wait for that moment. When he looked over, everything was ready. I just had to press the shutter.

This is one of my favorite photos I have ever taken. This is my nephew Will and his father Billy. I think this photo perfectly reflects the love between father and son and the background is just right. Using the normal focusing method, the probability of taking this photo is almost zero. Of course, you can pray and shoot birds at random, hoping for a miracle, but what if it doesn't happen? When I took this photo, I used single focus and automatic servo focus, and pressed the focus button to track the focus when he was rotating. So I can focus with my thumb and prepare the shutter with my index finger. Believe me, when you start taking pictures like this, this operation is very important.

This photo was taken last spring. Time is tight for filming this little guy, so it must be finished as soon as possible. I noticed the stone in the background and bet him that he wouldn't jump. Then, this photo was born. Within a few seconds, he climbed the stone with a smile, ready to prove me wrong. I still use the servo to focus, and use the focus key to track the focus during his jump. I took this photo when he landed.

This photo was taken in Carlsbad State Beach, California. The girl surfing noticed my camera, ran over to say hello and talked about photography. I took this photo when she turned to chase the waves. I put the single focus on her back and focus with servo, so that the camera will always follow her focus. When the right time came, I pressed the shutter.

When I learned these focusing skills, they really changed my world and became part of my workflow. I use autofocus almost 90% of the time. Switch to single focus only when it is too dark to use the auxiliary focus lamp. When using the auxiliary focus lamp, only single focus mode can be used. I can't think of any reason to focus again with the shutter. The same is true for selecting the focus point or autofocus point. My chances of using the autofocus point may only be 1%.

If these skills are new to you, I encourage you to try them. I admit that it takes a process to use the focus button and the single focus, but in the end you will get used to it. I can adjust the focus with my eyes closed now, and using the focus button is also very helpful.
