Watching water, spreading Zen, smelling fragrance and dyeing the heart —— An overview of Feng Shui in Suzhou Lion Forest
Suzhou gardens have always been famous, and they really live up to their reputation. I was deeply impressed after the visit. Especially surrounded by lion forests, high walls, deep houses, rockeries and curved corridors, the whole park has a compact layout and does have an artistic conception of "standing in the mountains".
That day, I was in a hurry and walked very fast. I just took a cursory walk. My deepest feeling is that the feng shui layout of these gardens is really good.
Feng Shui has a profound influence on China people. Traditional urban planning and design in past dynasties all contain the concept of geomantic omen, which can be seen in vast settlements and local houses.
It is said that this lion forest was built by the disciples of Zen Master Tian Ru, a monk in the Yuan Dynasty. In order to commemorate the relationship between Buddhism and disciples, take the meaning of Leo in Buddhist scriptures.
Buddha is a lion among people, Leo is the seat of Buddha, generally referring to a monk sitting at a table, and the forest is a temple. Therefore, the lion grove itself is a religious term. Zen monks take meditation and striving for opportunities as their way, and do not read Buddha or worship. In the middle and late Ming dynasty, there was a school of crazy Zen thought, which believed that living, sitting, lying down, receiving things, dressing and eating. Buddhism and Taoism. Therefore, the Tao does not need to be repaired, and it is useless to worship Buddha and read the Bible. It is also wrong to have the idea of seeking enlightenment. It even developed to deviate from Confucian classics and swear at ancestors.
So there are no Buddhist temples in Lion Forest. Since then, the lion forest has changed owners many times, and temples, gardens and houses have been divided. Traditional gardening techniques and Buddhist thoughts are integrated with each other, and the modern Bayes family introduced western gardening techniques and ancestral halls into the garden, making it a temple garden integrating Zen principles and garden pleasure.
A locust tree was planted in the yard in front of the lion forest. There is a saying that "there is a locust tree in the middle door, which is rich in three points, and there is an elm tree behind the house, and a hundred ghosts are not close." There are Jingui Yulan in front of and behind the main hall, which means "happiness from now on". There is a three-star sculpture of Fu Lushou on the roof, which means "three stars shine high".
There is also a wall base in front of the entrance hall, which is engraved with Jinshan stone carvings and articles used by the Eight Immortals in myths and legends. It's called the eight dark immortals. On the hanging floor, vases and peonies are used to represent wealth and peace, and pictographic leaves (representing the Bayeux Sutra) are used to indicate that the master is a Buddhist disciple. There are "five longevity bats" on the ground, representing happiness, wealth, longevity, celebration and examination respectively. When folding the rockery, the pictographic peak stones such as the Zodiac and the carp yue longmen are selected.
There are also three caves in Li Xuetang's yard, which are connected with lakes, rocks and peaks, indicating the desire of ternary harmony.
Lion Forest is a master of ancient gardening art and various geomantic omen.
Feng shui is good, and mountains are surrounded by water. The master of the mountain is the master of wealth. If the mountains and rivers cooperate well, the descendants of the master will be either rich or expensive. Master Yuan, a Ming man, is surrounded by a monk named Yao, who is probably the most famous and former master here. Recently, Bei Runsheng, the paint king of the Republic of China, bought this house, and later there were architects like Pei Ming.
