Basic features of Sony F55
PMW-F55 is equipped with revolutionary full-area electronic shutter technology. Different from traditional CMOS progressive output, each pixel in the specially-made Exmor Super 35mm 4K CMOS is equipped with a charge memory, making The F55's CMOS can output images frame by frame like a CCD, completely eliminating the jelly effect and flash band effect caused by CMOS.
PMW-F55 supports the recording formats of XAVC, MPEG-4 SStP, MPEG-2 HD422, ProRes and DNxHD (ProRes and DNxHD require firmware upgrade and machine board upgrade). When connected to an AXS-R5 recorder, the F55 can record 16-bit linear RAW format. The contents of the above table are based on the firmware software version Ver.6.01 (released in July 2015), and the latest version is Ver.6.01 (released in July 2015). The maximum writing speed of AXSM (A square card) 2.4Gbps and the excellent performance of Exmor Super 35mm 4K CMOS make high-speed photography possible, with the frame rate reaching up to 240fps at 2K (2048×1080) resolution.
The SxS pro+ card, which combines the highest writing speed of 1.1Gbps and high reliability, combined with Sony’s self-developed XAVC high-quality compression technology, allows for in-camera recording at 2K resolution (2048×1080 ), the frame rate can reach up to 180fps. When recording 4K RAW using AXS-R5 and AXSM, the F55 can simultaneously record XAVC (2K/HD) or MPEG HD422 low-bitrate data on the native SxS card, which can be used for proxy video processing.
