Why is the medium-frame camera with better image quality, but the full-frame camera has always been the mainstream equipment?

It is an indisputable fact that the quality of Chinese format is good.

However, the medium format also has an obvious disadvantage, that is, it is too big and too light to move easily.

Because the frame is large and the aperture of the lens is quite large, the cost of supporting the lens is also high and expensive.

135 Quan Huafu has a wide audience because the 135 system has become a very mature photography system as early as the movie era.

35 mm film has the same size as the film, which is convenient for mass production in the factory. The developing equipment is also exactly the same as the film developing process.

So its lenses range from 8 mm fisheye to 1200 mm long focal length, as well as various fixed focal length lenses and zoom lenses. Together with the external sound receiving display equipment, diving waterproof equipment, external flash, flasher and other lighting systems similar to rabbit cages, a complete 135 photography system is formed. This is the embodiment of its application value.

The same is true in the digital age. A large number of lenses in the film age can be docked with the fuselage of the corresponding brand, thus copying and producing digital lenses, which can save a lot of costs, so now the digital photography era also has a complete 135 photography system.

At first, due to the high cost of CCD or CMOS, we started with small-sized photosensitive elements. Now Quan Huafu is very mature, so if we make medium format, the cost will be higher. Therefore, 135 system is equivalent to affordable housing, and it is the first choice for news photography, sports photography or general commercial photography.

Nowadays photography can be described in one sentence: bad money drives out good money.

There is no mainstream photography today.

What is the mainstream? Modern people are eager for success, and no one practices kung fu in a down-to-earth manner. They all expect a gun, a weapon that can kill people in one fell swoop and solve all problems. Every day, there is a micro-single camera instead of SLR, and the camera evaluates photographic equipment. People who don't take part in the competition comment on the competition, not laugh at the association of the association. There is no mainstream photography, so there is no mainstream equipment.

Medium format camera belongs to professional equipment.

The medium format digital camera was not designed for the general public at first, but for professional photographers and some enthusiasts in the studio, so the audience is small.

Chinese format is a bit expensive for ordinary people. I like the medium format camera very much, and I plan to buy a Fuji medium format camera. I calculated that a Chinese frame body with several lenses, plus a large-capacity card and computer hardware facilities, people who want to play Chinese frame have to spend 65,438+million yuan, twice as much as 50,000 yuan in Quan Huafu, so they gave up the idea of Chinese frame.

The application field of medium format is relatively narrow, unlike Quan Huafu Tiger Balm in astronomy and geography, so few people use it.

For non-enthusiasts, there are too many frames in the middle frame, and the mobile phone can only take a commemorative photo. There is no need to put a large and difficult medium format. For photographers, a camera is a tool. The more detailed, the better the function. For ordinary people, the denser, the better the function. Ordinary people have no skills, and the more stupid they are, the more popular they are.

It must be clearly seen that the number of ordinary people with cameras far exceeds that of photographers.

The sales of commodities must be greater than similar works of art, the sales of ceramic daily necessities are greater than cultural relics, the sales of kitchen knives are greater than Longquan swords, and the sales of Rolls-Royce will never catch up with Santana. The sales of toys in the hands of ordinary people are much larger than those of professional tools in medium format.

Everyone knows that medium format cameras are good, but why are fewer people buying them? Because the medium format camera is expensive, the lens is more expensive, and the volume is relatively large, it is inconvenient to go out to shoot, and the ultra-high pixels are difficult to deal with in the later stage of ordinary computers. In fact, the main reason is the high price. A medium format can easily cost hundreds of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of yuan. I heard that a lens can reach millions of yuan. Think about it, for most photographers, which one can afford it, unless you are a billionaire.

Ordinary C format and Quan Huafu are expensive, but for many photographers, tens of thousands to tens of thousands of yuan is affordable for most people. After all, people's living standards and income have improved. Normal pixels can be handy for many people in the later period, regardless of the configuration of the computer. A popular thing, of course, has its survival foundation and huge market. This is what you said. Full-frame camera has always been the mainstream equipment for photography.

Medium format camera has high pixels and better image quality, which is the first choice for various professional commercial photography institutions and the high-end equipment that photographers dream of. However, the medium format camera is not the mainstream camera in the camera market, and there are not many movie friends who use it, mainly for the following reasons:

First of all, the price problem.

The frame area of the image sensor of a medium format camera is almost twice that of Quan Huafu. The larger the image sensor frame, the higher the manufacturing cost. Because of the high production cost, the price of the early medium format camera remained high, which could not be accepted by most film friends. Before 20 18, the price of medium format camera was close to100000 yuan, even more than100000 yuan. If you add a lens, if you want to use a medium format camera, it will cost at least 200,000 yuan. This price is not affordable for ordinary film friends and photography agencies. Therefore, the medium format camera has always been at the high end of the market, with many fans and few buyers.

Recently, due to the maturity of digital camera technology, the production cost of image sensors has been declining, and the price of medium format cameras has become more and more close to the people. At present, the medium format is close to the price in Quan Huafu, and the price of Fuji 1 100 million pixel medium format machine is less than 70,000 yuan, and there is still more room for decline in the future.

Second, practical problems.

Although the pixels in the middle frame are very high, some of them have exceeded 1 100 million pixels. But such a high pixel has a practical problem. Digital photography can exceed the effect of film shooting when it exceeds10 million pixels, which can meet the requirements of high image quality. At present, there are more than 50 million pixels in Quan Huafu image sensor and more than 30 million pixels in APS frame. Quan Huafu and APS frame cameras can meet and adapt to all the needs of digital photography. In addition, the high pixel of medium format brings higher requirements to post-processing equipment, which must be matched with computers with higher computing power.

In addition, the medium format still has some problems, such as large size and inconvenient carrying, which runs counter to the current development of miniaturization and lightweight of cameras. At the same time, the small lens group, large lens volume and high price of medium format are also obstacles to the popularization of medium format.

Summary:

Although the price of medium format camera has entered an acceptable stage in the market, it can't completely reach the level of replacing Quan Huafu and popularizing in practicality and portability. However, it will promote the expansion of professional and high-end medium format photography groups, occupy a larger market share, and occupy the development space of Quan Huafu to a certain extent.

This question is easy to explain.

A lot of people smoke y, right?

I took a 22-year-old X-group. This Y tastes really good and I can't put it down, but it certainly doesn't taste as good as the 40-odd sunshine X-group and nearly 100 leisure X-groups.

Most people like me can afford this. No matter how good things are, they can only look at them, but they can't be the necessities they can buy every day.

Therefore, the biggest market is still in Quan Huafu.

The price is not low, the quality is enough, and most people can afford it. This is the mainstream of the market.

Many times, it is not the most expensive and profitable, but the largest audience can be transformed into benefits.

Therefore, the research and development focus of manufacturers and everyone's consumption direction are here.

Another point is the technical bottleneck mentioned by the teacher earlier. Generally speaking, Quan Huafu is relatively balanced.

This problem is actually just a misunderstanding caused by the mixing of two different series of frameworks.

Quan Huafu refers to the "bottom size" of the film machine era 135 camera, 24 x 36mm;; Medium format refers to the "bottom size" of 120 cameras in the film machine era, that is, 60X60mm or 60 x 45 mm

In the era of film machine, there are many series of cameras, the most common one is corresponding to 135,120,620 film. 135 series are Leica and Contax. These cameras are often equipped with high-quality lenses or interchangeable lenses, which are generally expensive. 120 is basically a paraxial camera, most of which are of the folding cavity type. The lens structure is usually simple, because the photos they take are commonly called "2 inches" and can be seen without magnification, so most ordinary users choose this type. In the early days, the Kodak square box used 620, and the focal length was 10.5cm, and the photos taken were close to 4 inches.

In China, 120 Lulai camera was still very popular in 1950s, while Leica and Kangtai were more expensive and rarely used. Later, in the 1970s, SLR was gradually put in place. Later, Digital came out, because the cost of developing the sensor was related to the area and of course to the price of the product, so the initial sensor size was as small as 1/2.7 inches, and its diagonal length was only half of 24X36mm; Displayed together with a 24X36mm sensor, it can only be reduced by one corner. Therefore, for a long time, photographers have been longing for the sensor size to catch up with the film machine era 135 film format. So this size sensor is called Quan Huafu. In this process, lens manufacturing has also made great progress. Because of the great breakthrough in lens material and technology, interchangeable lenses have gradually become something that ordinary users can afford. As a result, the interchangeable lens model, which was originally only available to high-end users, has become a popular mainstream variety in the market.

120 film machine 60X60mm has not reached the maximum, and there is another 60X90mm, which can only be called medium format. Since the cost of making medium format is much higher, we should simply take the professional high-end road, and the fuselage structure and lens quality will also move closer to the high-end accordingly. Therefore, the medium format machine is a high-priced boutique, and non-professional users don't have to care.

Quan Huafu's "Quan" and the intermediate format "Zhong" are not the same, so let's not talk about one.

I just finished a full frame loop. Let me share my personal feelings.

1, Quan Huafu medium format changing experience:

A few days ago, I was fascinated by the quality of Fuji medium format. I killed Sony a73 and put it in Fuji medium format gfx50r. After about two months, I finally got rid of Fuji medium format and put it into Sony a7r3.

2. Advantages and disadvantages of medium format:

Advantages: the picture quality is really good, the layering is rich, the texture is delicate, and only it can be compared with the full-frame machine, especially with the original lens, which is really fragrant.

Disadvantages: ① The focus is average, and the snapshot will basically be pasted, which is suitable for landscapes or static portraits. If you turn to the manual pan/tilt, the peak focusing accuracy is not enough, so you need to enlarge it carefully. Fuji has the best focus in the middle frame. ② Anti-shake is general, the fuselage is not anti-shake, and it is easy to paste in dark light. ③ The fuselage is too big, gfx50r is the smallest middle frame, but the Bisogni a7 series is still a big circle. It's not heavy, but it's a big lump It depends on personal preference. (4) There are few lenses, which is the most important thing. The lens group is not rich. Lens is the core tool of photography creation. Without a lens, you just can't shoot some subjects. The lens in medium format is not so expensive in the original factory, and the lens group is not rich. First of all, the original factory price is high, and the cheapest one is seven or eight thousand. The original price of the new entry-level 50/3.5 is nearly 8 thousand, and the special price is reduced to 4500. Other lenses are between 8000 and 20000, and the maximum aperture of such an expensive lens is only 2.8. Besides, there are few sub-factories. I have communicated with the R&D personnel of a domestic optical factory, hoping that they can develop some different medium format lenses, but they told me that the medium format market is too small, and Fuji may have less than 10,000 sets. The factory designs a mold for production and sales. If it is expensive, there will be no market. If it is cheap, it will lose money. Therefore, from the market point of view, it is better to develop Quan Huafu lens with huge market.

3. Personal experience

Every photographer will think of: bigger frame, better lens. Chinese format should be something that every photographer wants to experience. I used the Chinese format for two months, during which various investigations, various purchases of accessories and various themes brought me a lot of shock and joy, and also brought me a lot of troubles. I found myself caught in the misunderstanding of equipment and couldn't take pictures comfortably and quietly. After suffering, I made a difficult decision, dropped almost brand-new machine lens, returned to the embrace of Quan Huafu, and chose market share. So after I returned to Sony, I started the first batch of 70- 180 Longteng f2.8 lenses in China, which were really fragrant.

The significance of not tangled equipment is that you can put more experiences into photography itself.

As the saying goes, the bottom layer presses people. The frame size of the middle frame is 43.8mm*32.9mm, while that of the 35mm Quan Huafu is only 36mm*24mm, which is much larger. In terms of image quality, natural media format has inherent advantages. However, there are three factors that restrict the popularization of medium format, one is price, the other is portability, and the third is comprehensive performance.

Let's talk about the price first

Because the imaging unit is large, the cost is high. In addition, the requirements for glasses are also very high. Basically, it will be equipped with a complete set, and its price will be several times that of a 35mm camera.

In addition to portability

Because the frame is large, the size of the fuselage is large, not to mention the weight, and because the lens has to cover the frame and the image field is large, the volume of the lens will be much larger. So the portability of the whole system is much worse.

Finally, talk about comprehensive performance.

With the same pixels per inch, the total pixels in the middle frame must be much higher. For example, Fuji, with a total pixel of 50 million+,will inevitably lead to the following consequences: continuous shooting speed is reduced, and high sensitivity is poor. It can be seen from the high-pixel machine 5DS in the SLR era that the higher the pixel, the higher the requirement for the image processor. If the continuous shooting speed is too fast, it may not be able to handle such a large amount of data. Although the pixel per inch is large, its high sensitivity is naturally low. In addition, high pixels will also bring large file capacity, and a raw is estimated to be smaller than 100m, which puts new demands on computers and storage.

To sum up, there are several points that restrict the popularization of medium format. At present, enthusiasts or professionals still use medium format. However, with the progress of technology, the cost may drop and the technical bottleneck will be solved. Then in the near future, maybe the media format will also enter the hands of ordinary people!

I think it's still about money. If I can't use up too much RMB and have enough money, I still want to buy a medium format digital camera with high image quality. Why not?

Love photography, like photography, who doesn't want to have more advanced tools? Because "if a worker wants to do a good job, he must sharpen his tools first." "More photographers have no money or spare money. Otherwise, they will definitely buy a set of medium format equipment and pursue photography. Leica, people who love photography must want it, but they just can't afford it because of money. In addition, the supporting lens group of medium format equipment is not very rich, so it is difficult to meet many requirements of photographers, which is a short board.

Because it is expensive and has shortcomings, the research and development and sales of medium format equipment are lagging behind, and more people can't afford it, so they are discouraged. In desperation, they had to change other doors.

On the other hand, Canon, Nikon, Sony and other Quan Huafu 135mm digital cameras have become the mainstream market and photography army. Cameras of 65438+100000 but less than 30000 are basically affordable to the general public, especially Canon, which has a rich lens group, high, middle and low grade, and has opened up a big market for people who like photography, accounting for at least half of the national share. Secondly, Nikon and Sony share the photography market. In the future, the mainstream market of photography will still be Quan Huafu. Its picture quality, pixels and various performances are relatively mature, serving the general public, and the research and development and sales of equipment will become more and more perfect.

For a hundred years, the medium format camera has been put into the photography market as an aristocrat, and ordinary people can't afford it, so it is far from the market and out of the sight of more photographers, and it has become a good product that photographers have no memory-an eternal aristocrat.

In fact, everyone has tacitly realized the respective advantages and disadvantages of China format and Quan Huafu. What should be considered when choosing is: personal preference, creation, image quality, economic conditions and physical condition.
