"Historical Records" Volume 32 "The Family of Qi Taigong"~477~

The person who Taigong looked at Lu Shang was from Donghai. His ancestors were known as the Four Sacred Mountains, and they were very successful in helping Yu level the soil and water. During the Yu-Xia period, he was granted the title of Lu or Shen, and his surname was Jiang. During the Xia and Shang Dynasties, Shen and Lu were either Fengzhi's descendants or common people, and they were descendants of Miao descendants. His original surname was Jiang, and he was named Lu Shang. Lu Shanggai was poor and old, so he raped Zhou Xibo by fishing. Xibo was about to go hunting, and he divined, "What he got was neither a dragon nor a tiger, nor a tiger, nor a beast; what he got was the help of the overlord." So when Zhou Xibo was hunting, he met the Taigong in the Yangtze River of Wei, and he said: "My ancestor Taigong said, 'There should be a sage suitable for Zhou, and Zhou will prosper.' Is the son really evil? My Taigong has been looking forward to his son for a long time." Hence the name. He was called "Tai Gong Wang", and he returned home with him and was appointed as his teacher. Tang Dynasty Sima Zhen's "Historical Records Suoyin" quoted Qiao Zhou as saying: "The surname is Jiang, and the given name is Ya. A descendant of Emperor Yan, after Boyi, he has made great achievements in controlling the four mountains, and he is granted the title of Lu. His descendants will take the surname from him and give it to their descendants." Tang Dynasty Zhang Shoujie's "Historical Records Zhengyi" quoted "Kuo Di Zhi" as saying: "Yingqiu is located a hundred steps north of Linzi, Qingzhou."

Tai Gong looked at Lu Shang, which is east People of the seaside. His ancestors once served as officials in the Four Mountains and assisted Xia Yu in managing water and soil with great achievements. Shun and Yu were granted the title of Lu, and some were granted the title of Shen, with the surname Jiang. During the Xia and Shang dynasties, some of Shen and Lu were granted titles to their descendants, and some of their descendants became commoners. Lu Shang was their distant descendant. Lu Shang's original surname was Jiang. Because he took the name of his fiefdom, he was called Lu Shang.

Lu Shang was once poor. When he was old, he took the opportunity of fishing to ask to see Zhou Xibo. Before going out to hunt, Uncle Xi made a divination, and the hexagram said: "The prey obtained is neither dragon nor chi, nor tiger nor bear; the reward is the auxiliary minister who will achieve the cause of overlord." Xibo then went hunting, and sure enough he met the Taigong on the north bank of the Wei River. After talking with Taigong, Xibo was overjoyed and said: "Ever since our ancestor Taigong said: 'A saint will come to Zhou, and Zhou will prosper because of it.' Is that you? Our Taigong has been looking forward to you for a long time." Therefore, he was called Lu Shang. For the sake of "Tai Gong Wang", the two of them rode back together and were respected as Grand Master.
